Just out of curiosity, how far were you when you really felt the effects of pregnancy? Where you had to think twice about things?

In other words, when did you not become super active?

I remember in my first pregnancy, at 36 weeks, I felt I could no longer work full time as it felt really uncomfortable. Just want to know your experiences.

How did this differ with other pregnancies, if so?

I had severe SPD, so quite early compared to others. It started twinging at around 12 weeks and I could only shuffle to walk by 30 weeks. There was no way I could have 'stayed active', just getting out of bed hurt so much it made me cry.

MrsW9 · 22/06/2024 14:43

I was starting to feel tired at 37 weeks but managed to work a few days longer. Baby arrived at 38 weeks, just a few days after stopping.

This is interesting! I'm 10 weeks and my HIIT instructor told me I need to think about stopping HIIT classes in the next two weeks when I told him I'm 10 weeks (I am not experiencing any issues with the class). My midwife told me not to do any core exercises....I usually do 4 classes a week of something, BC, spin, HIIT etc. what is your view? I have no issues with my pregnancy.

hahavzv · 22/06/2024 15:05

Omg I have heard the complete opposite and that it's a very good idea to train your core. I follow a few pre-natal and post natal fitness instructors and they all highly recommend this and will help with getting back into shape once given birth.

The fact you said 'him' makes me roll my eyes.

I found the early weeks much harder than the later ones because of overwhelming tiredness. I got slow, which I only realised when I started being late for things I usually walked to, but I didn't actually stop.

I stood on the terraces at football the day before DS1 was born and sat an exam 3 days before DS2 arrived although 3 hours without the toilet was a challenge

Baby number 6, hyperemesis in first trimester and completely wiped out, from then on energy returns but varies from day to day, obviously 1st pregnancy is much easier as can rest when not at work and housework etc is virtually non existent compared to when have a family to care for. In fact went to visit family on my own for a couple of days this pregnancy and couldn’t believe how much energy I suddenly had!! Currently 34 weeks and can barely get up this afternoon, usually feel much worse after a busy few days but then will get random days (even when overdue) when seem to get energy back for a day. Managing work totally depends on nature of work, hours, other commitments etc. Generally have always found felt a lot better/easier to juggle everything else once stopped work

FlyingHorses · 22/06/2024 15:20

I was an avid runner but stopped running the day I had my positive test. Back running now so didn’t do any harm having a break! I switched to walking or stationary bike 3/4x a week. From about 30 weeks I couldn’t go upstairs or get in/out shower without help due to severe pelvic pain, but indoor cycling was weirdly fine (pretty slowly).
I had to stop driving at 6mo along because my hands couldn’t reach the wheel in terms of how close my belly was to the wheel (I’m 4ft8). I very much ate what I wanted and relaxed as much as possible, and if I have a second I’d do the same again.

BuggeryBumFlaps · 22/06/2024 15:21

38 weeks I noticed my feel swelled up and I couldn't bend down to do my laces up. Walked around with unlaced cat boots on for two weeks

Do you think staying active during pregnancy helps with staying as active as you can?

I think so for me, as with my first I accepted lifts from kind colleagues and felt it was harder to do as much later on, whereas with my second I was still cycling past my due date. Convinced this helped a bit with labour too!

Staringatthewalljustmeagain · 22/06/2024 16:25

I ran a 5km and lifted weights the day before both of my 39 week C-sections. I rode the horse and mucked out, too.

I have to be active or I feel horrid, I’ve always been like that, and I just never stopped during pregnancy.

I had identical bumps each time and didn’t put on much weight, probably due to being active. I hate this phrase, but I ‘snapped back’ both times. I’m convinced it’s due to staying really active, in spite of an SI joint injury the second time. As such, I’m a huge proponent of exercising really quite hard during pregnancy. So many women I know toned it down too much or stopped altogether, which has done them no favours at all.

Inspiring!!! So I'm due to fly out and I will be 30 weeks at the time. I don't want to be absolutely shattered at that stage but I am quite active generally and both my pregnancies were fine.

It amazed me how comfortable I was in my second pregnancy. At 30 weeks pregnant I was walking all around centre parcs with no issue!

It’s leaning me towards wanting a third but I fear I won’t be as lucky again to have an easy pregnancy. I did have other complications around the baby though, but nothing that affected my comfort.

HuevoRanchero · 22/06/2024 16:30

I was fine and energetic, though very nauseated, and had to stop using the gym because of the smell, which made me gag. But I was commuting internationally and walking a lot till I had to stop flying (and hence stop working) at 36 weeks, and I walked 16 miles on my due date to try to get things moving. (It didn’t.)

VioIetMoon · 22/06/2024 19:17

I'm 36 weeks, I don't feel like pregnancy has stopped me doing anything normal. Just find it a little uncomfortable bending now

Catopia · 22/06/2024 19:38

I think it depends what your normal is. I am 18 weeks, and running about a quarter of my normal running mileage at a slower speed. To me that's not "normal" or the "super active" that I was before: I don't have the energy for my "normal" life or routine, and I haven't from early pregnancy, but I didn't really expect to. For me it was about slowing down the pace of life a little and listening to what my body needs, and sometimes what it needs is a little nap! Midwife was clear I could do what I felt able as long as when body said stop I listened to it rather than pushing through in the way I might have done before. I'm quite ok with plodding a 5k rather than smashing out a 15 mile hard running session at the moment.

Invent · 22/06/2024 19:44

I was very active all the way through although I was noticeably more tired when I went paintball at 27 weeks.
I painted the hall stairs and landing 4 weeks before giving birth.

Sadly I am achey menopausal and I am less fit and active now then when U was pregnant.

TheFluffiestCat · 22/06/2024 19:55

About 32 weeks I went away to a friend's wedding. DH and I made a weekend of it. I was absolutely fine at the wedding, danced most of the evening (although not as much as my friend who was 39 weeks and was on the dancefloor until midnight). The next day we went for a little walk around a village. No more than a couple of miles. I was shuffling like an old lady. From then on I was pretty tired but otherwise functioning normally, still working FT, until the baby arrived at 36 weeks.

I totally agree with this. It was necessary for my physical and mental health.

Hippomumma · 22/06/2024 20:17

First pregnancy, everything got more difficult around 37 weeks. Second pregnancy, I was only around 30 weeks when I started to struggle. Ended up being a very long baby taking up lots of space! Every pregnancy is different as they say!

You do whatever you're comfortable with. Core exercises I agree with. You can't really do them as you go along. I used to do a couple of body pump classes a week and had a designated person to lift weights off me so I could roll over rather than sit myself up. I found spinning difficult at about 7 months as bump got in the way. Otherwise, I carried on as normal. It's about making adjustments.

MixedCouple2 · 22/06/2024 20:54

First was 38 weeks
Sexond 33 weeks

Maty444 · 22/06/2024 21:01

Wow everyone seems to have incredible energy during their pregnancies on here!!

Nat6999 · 23/06/2024 00:50

I had to finish work at 31 weeks but that was because of MH problems due to exh being diagnosed with MS. Otherwise I was doing most things as normal until I was 36+4 when I started with pre eclampsia, I was pushing a 21 stone husband round in a wheelchair at 35 weeks. I had a fall at the doctors at 36 weeks & broke all my fingers on my right hand but still managed to drive, go shopping etc.

Sunnytwobridges · 23/06/2024 03:11

Oddly I was on the go and doing everything normally right up to when I was induced.

my hardest time was the beginning when I was sooooo tired I would sleep in my car at lunchtime. That lasted about 8 weeks

Body Combat isn’t recommended in pregnancy. This is from the Les Mills website.

Waitingfordoggo · 23/06/2024 08:20

I did Bodypump and Bodybalance in pregnancy which were both fine and only needed a few adaptations as I got further into pregnancy.
