DD had sports day yesterday, I had put suncream on her in the morning but obviously it was very sunny and she spent a lot of time outdoors while at school and it didn't get reapplied. Her cheeks looked pinky at pickup and more pink at bedtime, I told her she'd caught the sun. This morning it's more sort of blotchy like this and she says it itches, it's a little warm to touch. The other cheek isn't as bad. I'm 22 weeks pregnant and have had a lot of anxiety about slapped cheek syndrome so I've been on the lookout for it all the time. I haven't heard anything about cases in school and DD has not been ill. And it's been so long since any of us had sunburn I've forgotten what exactly it can look like! Please help with what it could be!

It looks like sunburn to me and seems the most likely given the timing

Does she have any other symptoms of slapped cheek (high temperature, a runny nose and sore throat, a headache) are the common ones suggested on the NHS website

No, no signs of illness this week. It just seems weird it's only on her cheeks, maybe her cheeks is the only place she rubbed her suncream off I don't know 😟

I work at a school. Loads of slapped cheek recently. A lot of the kids had no other symptoms and felt fine. In your shoes I'd get it checked out by a HCP to be sure.

Is it rough? DD had slapped cheek recently and red cheeks plus feeling tired and listless were her only symptoms, but her cheeks were very rough so I knew it wasn’t sunburn. I think best to get checked just in case, given you’re pregnant.

We’ve also had cases of slapped cheek lately. My understanding is that it’s the earlier part of the pregnancy that it’s riskier but can you ask for a blood test to check if you have immunity? Most people are immune I believe.

I caught slapped cheek at 9 weeks (now 19 weeks and regular checks on baby have shown everything is fine), and whilst I had symptoms, neither of my kids did. I'd speak to your GP in a week or two and say you think you've possibly been exposed to slapped cheek and request an antibody test to check. If you ask now and it shows you don't have antibodies then it's not really telling you if you've caught it, whereas if you wait then you'll know if you've caught anything now or if you had it at some point in the past. It's really doing the rounds at the moment, so I'm sure you won't be the only pregnant lady to ask this recently.

Definitely slapped cheek unfortunately 😟 she has a spotty rash all over her arms and back today. So worried now

The worst time to get it is before 20 weeks so try not to panic. Follow up with your doctor tho!
