Hi all, hope everybody is well.

So I am a first time mum to be at the age of 42.

I have been for 2 scans in the last 4 days due to being overly anxious and worried (plus the first scan lady wasn't very reassuring). One said I was 6w5d (7w today) the other saying i was 6w2d (today).

The first day of my last period was 1 may 2024 and they usually last 2 days and my cycles are usually 25/26 days, so I have no idea which to go off.

Both scans were internal, and showed the yolk sac had formed but neither showed a fetal pole. I was told that some women can see a baby and heartbeat at this stage, but some don't see anything but the yolk sac, but as you can imagine I'm now worried sick.

I have been advised to go back by the first lady in 2 weeks, the second said a week.

I have no idea what to think or do. I have no bleeding or considerable pain. just sore breasts and tiredness.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't think the frequent scanning will help your anxiety TBH. Certainly not this early.

Can you not wait for your NHS dating scan and in the meantime tell yourself to focus on self care (Good diet, moderate exercise, relaxation etc)?

I am going to go back in the 2 weeks as recommended and just take it as a positive that's what is there is in the right place.

Im in the exact same position as you. 42, and exactly the same amount of weeks, had an ultrasound for something else last Thurs and only saw the sac, said it was too early to see anything else. Have the actual early scan on Saturday where I predict I’ll be 7+ 2 if my last period was May 2nd. I also have barely any symptoms just bit tired in the eve and sensitive nipples. Strange how similar we are! I do have a ten year old and remember not having any symptoms with him either, so I wouldn’t let that bother you. The only thing to do is try to get through this limbo phase with positive thinking and patience. You can drive yourself mad with all the scans, trust yourself and your body, good luck

I was a FTM at 42 after 2 1st trimester miscarriages. My baby is now 5 months old.

My advice:
Parenthood is a whole heap of opportunities to feel anxious. Practice distraction and active relaxation now so that it becomes a habit otherwise you will tie yourself in knots before you reach your dating scan. You have no indicators suggesting you need to worry.

Eat nutritious food (check NHS website for what to avoid, don't randomly google). Exercise regularly. Active de-stress every day (yoga/meditation/ bubble bath not too hot/ whatever floats your boat). Take your vitamins.
Distract yourself, do all the things you won't be able to do when you're heavily pregnant/after the baby arrives like go out spontaneously, travel, eat in pokey little restaurants, go to the cinema, have sex. See your friends.
Get your home ready and your finances in order. Clear out that shit you've been meaning to clear out.
There is very little you can do to ensure the outcome you want. Manage what you can control, learn to let go of the rest.

Last- don't wish for symptoms! Pregnancy nausea/sickness and exhaustion is a pain in the ass.
Actual last - do your pelvic floor exercises religiously

Thank you so much, its really helped reading this. I hope everything is good with you and I've told myself today that I have to think positive and stop the worrying x

Thank you for the words of wisdom. I'm a worry wart naturally and this is all ive wanted for so long and resigned myself to the possibility of it not happening. I'm going to take a whole no approach tomorrow is a new day. X
