Thin uterus - anyone else been told this?

Hi, I have had 2 c sections 1 for breech and 2nd for placental abruption. While yhe surgeon was sewing me up he commented that my womb was 'paper thin'. I saw a consultant for a second opinion about a year later and he said I could have another child but it would have to be carefully managed, c section at 34 weeks, bed rest for last few months. 7 years later I am 9 weeks pregnant and terrified about the pregnancy. Anyone had a similar experience and what were your outcomes? Thanks

Nadine, sorry no never heard of this, but try to be positive, dont torture yourself with fears, I am sure some mn on here will be able to offer help. Make sure you ask whatever you need to of your consultant, and dont be afraid to push for answers, good luck with your bump, will say a little prayer for you and your little one. x

I've heard this told to others before. Your uterus will be thin (ie stretched) in late pregnancy (doh!) However in seven years your uterus should have recovered somewhat. The breech positioning and the placental abruption are not automatically recurring events. Bed rest is also not shown to do much to help prevent uterine rupture. While rupture can happen anytime during pregnancy, it's much more likely during labour.

Do you have classical (vertical) stitches or lower horizontal? If it's the former, you are at higher risk but in any case you need to have an ultrasound to assess where the placenta is and how thick the scar tissue is (also to rule out the placenta adhering to the scar).

I would suggest you ask your GP to refer you to the local specialist obstetrician for high risk pregnancies. Probably at your big regional hospital. You need specific information on your case.

But literally hundreds of women have multiple cs without managing to explode. You will probably be absolutely fine. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I went to see the midwife this morning who says pretty much the same as you. Guess I'll just have to wait to see the consultant for more info. My main concern is for my 2 kids who will be over the moon when they know were having a new baby, but I don't want to tell them yet because they will be devastated if something happens, but i'm not sure how much longer I can hide it. Hopefully i'll see the cons in a week and they will put my mind at rest a bit and then i can tell them. Fingers crossed Nadine x x x
