We’ve been trying since November last year & we finally had a positive test last night and this morning. Do I need to book a doctors appointment straight away? When did you start telling people? I think I’m in a bit of disbelief/ I also want to shout it from the rooftops!! 😁

Huge congrats!!

Call your doctor today, they’ll get the midwife informed.
we waited with our first until 4/5 months. Then didn’t tell many people who found out when I was around 8m with a huge bump. Some people didn’t know u til baby arrived.
you do what works for you. most people wait until the 12 week scan.

enjoy ur little bubble 🫧

I forgot to say, start taking your folic acid straight away.

when you call doctor they’ll ask for the date of your last period - to calculate your due date :)

Congratulations! Every trust is different. In mine you complete an online self referral to midwifery,I was seen at 9 weeks. I know some friends weren't seen until 10+ which is such a long wait !

Are you 4/5 weeks? Some people get a scan after 6 weeks and tell. We didn't tell last time until.after 12 weeks, probably do the same this time. It's personal preference.

Henski · 19/06/2024 08:56

Congratss, I just referred myself to my local hospital and got my appointment when I’ll be 9.5weeks, depending on how that goes we will then tell close family ! I can’t wait that long so have a private scan booked at 7 weeks just to make sure everything is going well.

Rocknrollstar · 19/06/2024 08:59

We told everyone straight away with our first - we were so excited. But it’s better to wait to at least 12 weeks. With the second we kept it quiet as long as possible - until my boss called me in to discuss re-structuring the department and I had to ask him if he had noticed I was wearing a loose dress.

Congrats! My Trust has an online self referral form to see a midwife. I had my booking appointment at around 10 weeks pregnant. I told my DP and best friend right away, my parents the day of my 12 week scan, in laws a bit later and then everyone else after the 20 week scan. I wanted to make sure everything was ok before I told everyone.

Suchardchoccy · 19/06/2024 09:06

Congratulations!!
In my trust you just do an online self referral to the midwives and they will be in touch for your booking in appointment around 8-10 weeks.
Most people usually wait to tell others after their 12 week scan but everyone is different.
And also like a pp said, if you haven't already, start taking your folic acid!!

DappledThings · 19/06/2024 09:07

I never saw the GP, just self-referred to midwife service at the hospital.

Up to you when you tell people. I told parents pretty much straight away and other people whenever it came up. So when a few people asked why I wasn't drinking at a wedding at 10 weeks but caveated it as "it's early days so anything could happen". I hated the idea of a big announcement so telling people before it was a certain thing so I could make it not a big deal was easier for me. Even when first time became a miscarriage.

HoarseSoprano · 19/06/2024 09:10

There’s no mad rush! Do whatever you need to in your trust to arrange a midwife booking in appt, which won’t be for a while. Take your supplements. Enjoy it! I didn’t tell anyone other than my line manager until I was 19 weeks, and that was only because I work in a field (academia) where you need to hire maternity cover for teaching, and university HR grinds slowly. You’ve got plenty of time.

violetposie · 19/06/2024 09:16

In my trust you call the GP and they make the referral to the midwifery team who arrange a booking appointment for 8 weeks just to ask a load of questions! We didn't tell anyone until 12 weeks and at that point we told immediate family. We didn't tell anyone else until after the anomaly scan at 20 weeks!

Strawbs92 · 19/06/2024 10:07

It depends where you live as my GP didn't want to know if i was pregnant and i had to self refer on the badger website (as notes are now on badger app) and call the midwifes office.

Just keep taking your folic acid.

Aww congratulations!!! You're best off cutting the middle man out and just referring yourself to your local midwife service. You can do this online and they will see you for the first time at around 8 weeks.
