I have had two miscarriages and have been advised by the fertility clinic to take three pessaries a day If I fall pregnant again. I have just found out I am pregnant again and I just feel like three is a lot.

Hey, I’m so sorry to hear about your miscarriages but congratulations on the pregnancy! I’ve also had a lot of miscarriages and am pregnant again. I take two pessaries of 400mg a day, I spoke to a gynaecologist who said there was no need to take three a day and the guidelines recommend two at 400mg. What dosage are you taking?

I’m on 3 pessaries, 2 gel
applicators and 3 progesterone injections a day!

I’m on two pessaries and one v strong injection. I had a dr tell me nonsense like you @SunshineHope92 that I didn’t need more than two. When I insisted on a progesterone test after taking 2 for nearly a week my progesterone was 4 (supposed to be >50 but best at nearly 100).

if anyone is concerned about what they are taking I’d recommend getting a blood test to check your levels.

@Rockyslife I started at 2 (due to previous loss) and then had my levels tested. Consultant wanted to see it a bit higher so I went up to three. The side effects have been hard on my gastrointestinal system but happy to keep taking 3 for now

Rockyslife · 18/06/2024 16:41

@Orlahoping did you request to have your levels tested? Every person I see says they do not check the progesterone levels which I find mental if it’s been prescribed etc

@SunshineHope92 thank you for your response. Isn’t it such a traumatic journey! I’ll speak to my consultant tomorrow and ask the q. I feel like I get different opinions and advice from different professionals. The last miscarriage was confirmed as a chromosome issue so I just feel like is it even necessary

@Rockyslife I have gone private and they seemed very keen on checking my levels. I have to say the constant blood tests did cause some anxiety as I got a bit obsessed with how my levels were moving.

I have heard that they don't check progesterone generally because it really can fluctuate throughout the day even without supplementation so can cause undue anxiety.

@Rockyslife yes it really is, I hope you’re feeling okay! It’s really tough to know but like you say best to speak to your consultant. So I was taking progesterone after ovulation with my last pregnancy and also miscarried because of chromosomal issues. For this pregnancy I didn’t take progesterone from ovulation and still implanted. I saw a recurrent miscarriage doctor who also gave me aspirin and steroids but I thought that was a bit much so have just taken the progesterone and aspirin from about week 7. Good luck with the consultant and for the first trimester 😀
