Hey 26 weeks what do they do at the midwife appointment at this point?

When do they start doing measurements of the tummy? X

All available on the nhs website

Not all trusts do bump measurements anymore as they can be very unreliable. Our trust does an extra scan at 36w for everyone instead.

Dyra · 18/06/2024 10:20

@ProjectKettle They should still be doing bump measurements unless you're having growth scans. The whole point is to track growth. You might go from having the 75th to a 25th baby and not know. I admit they're not great, but it's still better than nothing in that 20-36 week interval.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 18/06/2024 10:22

@charlie19900 Urine check, blood pressure, pulse, CO reading, then they will have a feel of your tummy to see where baby is positioned and use the doppler for you to hear baby's heart beat. Some start the fundal measurements at 25 and some at 28 weeks

No, they don't do them for anyone. Ive known 10 or 11 people who have had babies in our trust in the last couple of years and noone has had one and we obviously haven't all been having growth scans. If you see a GP at any point, the GP might do one, but the midwives don't anymore.

Thank
You 😊 I have many growth scans booked so was just wondering if they started measuring this week x

Fair enough. They're the medical professionals and I guess there's been evidence enough that it's not worth it. Just feels off. They still do them in mine, and we get a 36 week scan as well.

Kiwi23 · 18/06/2024 12:31

I had my midwife at 25 weeks and she listened to baby and said I’m not gunna measure you as your having growth scans so I’m assuming if I wasn’t having growth scans from this point x

charlie19900 · 18/06/2024 13:47

Just an update all went fine. She did blood pressure and wee check.

She also measured my bump I'm 26 weeks but measuring 23 weeks I have a growth scan in 2 weeks x

@charlie19900 I get growth scans. Mine are already planned for 28, 32, 36 and 40 weeks if that helps with your planning!

charlie19900 · 18/06/2024 14:09

@2mumlife hey yeah my first one is 28 weeks then every two weeks !! The joys of the scans lol xx

@charlie19900 Ah must be more interesting pregnancy risks than me! I tried to enjoy the extra scans as a chance to see baby regularly., but mine were a bit unnecessary really (due to being an IVF pregnancy, but I had a 8.5lb baby at term so perfectly normal size so the scans were always non-eventful)

charlie19900 · 18/06/2024 14:17

@2mumlife I had a little girl born spontaneously at 24 weeks weighing 3 pound and then a boy 36 weeks
4 pound so I'm high risk xx

@charlie19900 Have they been able to identify why you went into preterm labour? Hopefully this bubba grows nice and big and stays put until term for you x

charlie19900 · 18/06/2024 14:25

@2mumlife so they said it was iugr for growth but they can't tell me why so early. I do feel
Like my life at that point was very stressful and I think that had a part in it to. I'm much more settled now so hoping my stress levels are better and baby stays put I'm small I'm 5.1 and 8 stone petite so midwife says I'm not gunna have massive baby's xx

@charlie19900 Hope it all goes more smoothly this time around :)

Isthisrealomgwow · 19/06/2024 16:17

In our trust if you are having growth scans they don't do fundal height measurements, as they conflict.
