Nursing chair - where does it go?

Please help solve a dilemma. I know it's not a big issue at all!! Baby is due in 2 months.

I have a 2 bedroom house. Downstairs is living room + kitchen + toilet room. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms. I need a good nursing chair as I have A LOT of back and hip problems so need good support. There is no other armchair in the house. None. A big sofa downstairs which is not very supportive.

So does nursing chair go in our bedroom so I can nurse at night? Or downstairs in living room where I can watch TV, have snacks. Where will I spend most of my time?

I'm having a C section so I guess I won't be going up and down the stairs a lot in the first week or two.

I thought initially downstairs. But a friend of mine had her nursing chair downstairs and she found that if she breastfed in bed, she wasn't waking up properly, so she fell asleep on the baby twice while feeding. Then she moved it into the bedroom as going from bed to chair would wake her up a bit better.

I'd put it in the living room. In the first couple of weeks I fed in bed sitting up bolt upright with a pillow behind me as it was the only way to get a decent latch (I had this issue with all my DC). Then I fed in bed lying on my side, so the baby could do both boobs with me barely needing to move. My whole aim was to be as un-awake as possible while keeping the baby safe.

Hi
I have mine in the bedroom. My baby is 18 weeks now so I breastfeed in bed whilst lying down but when we were both getting used to it I would sit in the chair. I also liked the chair for the sleepless nights when I didn’t want to ‘get up’ properly like go downstairs etc but I also needed out of the bed if that makes sense. Also….and I know this may seem strange to some, when I had visitors I didn’t like breastfeeding in front of them in the early days as it’s a bit all over the place so I would go upstairs on the chair to feed..also a good excuse to get away from people! 😂

Hi OP,

not quite what you are asking about but because you mentioned breastfeeding in bed I just wanted to share. Please look up the safe sleep 7 and the cuddle curl position. The Lullaby Trusts website has great resources on co-sleeping. It could have saved me so much stress in the first couple weeks. Also an armchair or sofa is the most dangerous place to fall asleep with a baby (much much more so than a bed when following the safe sleep 7).

In terms of the nursing chair we chose living room and my husband has also used it for baby’s naps in the afternoons and evenings. We love it!

Interesting, so 2 out of 3 votes for the living room!

My friend scared me (well, she scared herself) about how she fell asleep on her baby while breastfeeding so I didn't think not waking up fully is OK. But then again, how would you ever get any sleep!

I didn't have a nursing chair as such but a supportive wooden one in the nursery. During the day I just fed them while sitting on the sofa.

Hi
this is just my opinion and I’m sure I’ll get shot down in flames by the safety police but….when my baby was very small I would get up into the nursing chair because then you are awake. You can’t sleep walk to the chair 😂

but now hes a little older and we have BF nailed I do it in the bed lying down, and yes sometimes I have fallen asleep. However as I co sleep the bed is already set up safely…again some will take issue with this!
