Morning all

22 weeks pregnant atm. I’ve been trying to get into the habit of side sleeping pretty much since I found out I was expecting as I’ve always slept on my back, I’m so comfy on my back! Anyway I’ve purchased a big pregnancy pillow, that was uncomfy, so I’ve also packed myself up with different pillows (inbetween legs, under bump, behind back) I just can’t sleep on my side, I have a rubbish nights sleep tossing and turning and wriggle that much that when I wake up, I’m on my back! Anyone else similar? Midwife just says keep doing what I’m doing, if I wake up on my back, turn over to my side, but I lost my last baby 2 years ago at 18 weeks so I’m absolutely terrified this one isn’t going to make it anyway. Can anyone offer any comfy sleeping tips please? x

I am also pregnant and a back sleeper om not as far om as you so still trying to get used to it...it's really hard.

What pregnancy pillow did you buy? I've been suggested bellamoon?

I did read that i you elevate your head it's safe to sleep on back? I wondered how much for example would 2-3 pillows be enough? I wanted to run this past my midwife at next appointment.

Ooo I haven’t heard of Bellamoon - I’m off to look now thank you!

Yes I’m sleeping with 3 pillows at the moment aswell. So glad it’s not just me who prefers to be on their back, my husband sleeps on his side soundly all night!

Sorry to hear about your loss.xx
I purchased a pregnancy wedge which goes under my bump, I find this a lot more comfy than a pillow especially when bump gets bigger.
I also have a small pregnancy pillow which I’ll only have between my knees and around my back which stops me fully turning onto my back but means I can ‘half ‘be in my back, but not uncomfortable or unsafe!

Thank you @Em1996 😊 that’s really helpful I’ll look at this online too

Bbhugme pillow has been a life saver for me. I did get a Bellamoon one to begin with but don’t rate it tbh. I use it for lounging on the sofa now lol

I second this, Bbhugme has been the best pregnancy investment I’ve made. I’m also a back sleeper and it helped me switch to side with no drama at all.

Another vote for bbhugme...I still use it now. I was the same as you, hated sleeping in my side. I've actually got used to it now and always sleep on my side. I'm so sorry for your loss and can understand the anxiety. I also lost a baby at 18 weeks, and went on to have a healthy baby. Hopefully you're getting the support you need xxx

I’ve got a pillow like this one https://thinknatty.com/en-en/products/natty-pregnancy-pillow

it means I can sleep sort of halfway between side and back. I think it’s just fully on your back that’s not recommended

Natty Pregnancy Pillow

Natty Maternity Pillow. The Natty surrounds your tummy and back. Comfortable support for your bump, hips & back

In my first pregnancy (I say first cause it resulted in my first child, but it’s actually the second because I had a miscarriage before)I used one of those big yoga rolls behind my back, so I physically wasn’t able to roll on my back without walking up.

I moved to another country before having my second child and that “don’t sleep on your back” advice just wasn’t a thing there….. There’s actually no real scientific basis for it. Just some very limited studies that say there MIGHT be a link between increased stillbirth risk and sleeping on your back. So don’t stress too much about it if you wait up on your back.

Out my pregnancy pillow between my legs a pillow in front of me for under my bump that was more useful as I got bigger and I wedged a pillow at my back so I couldn't turn on my back in my sleep , sleep was crap pretty much my whole 3rd trimester never got totally
Comfortable but it was the best I could do some nights I would just sleep
Sitting up and it was too uncomfortable lying on my side all night as I got bigger

No wonder you’re anxious, I’m sure all will be well this time for you though. I used a wedge at my back to stop me rolling over but like pp says, it’s not necessarily high risk if you do.
