Pregnant so soon after an ectopic pregnancy

I recently had surgery for an ectopic pregnancy and had my left fallopian tube removed. When I say recently, the surgery was 4 weeks ago.

My partner and I were sexually actively again about a week and a half after surgery and we were careful…to begin with. I did pregnancy tests weeks 2 and 3 after the surgery and the lines were getting fainter and barley there by week 3.

Around two weeks post surgery we slept together and we were not so careful, so I did a pregnancy test on Wednesday this week (4weeks post op) and there was a darker line. I repeated the test today (Friday) and it has got even darker and a digital test is saying 2-3weeks pregnant.

Is there a chance I am pregnant again, or could it still be my hcg levels being all over the place following the surgery? Has anybody had similar or has anybody got pregnant so soon after an ectopic?

The ectopic pregnancy was our third loss and so I’m really hoping I’m pregnant again, but also really worried about it being so soon following surgery (as I don’t want it to cause any complications) and generally anxious as I really want our rainbow baby (if pregnant)!

Hi Ty13.
I had surgery for a ruptured ectopic in March and am now 5 weeks pregnant again, so not as quick as yours, but I'm sure I'm sharing the same anxieties you have! This is our third pregnancy but no living children so far :-(

They told me after surgery to wait for one proper period to start trying again, but I think that was just so the pregnancy could be dated accurately.

Maybe contact EPAU (I'm in UK), though they're not being very helpful in my case (some brown spotting) and won't see me until 6 weeks, but if you don't know your date maybe they'd see you sooner?

Hi kjb23

thank you so much for your response. I’m so sorry to hear about your losses, it’s one of the hardest things to have to go through.

I think I’m going to do another test Monday morning and see if it has got darker/weeks increased and then get in touch with the EPAU! having read more info online, you can ovulate 14days after surgery, which does make me believe it could be a new pregnancy, as that would fit in with when we weren’t as careful. I obviously want it to be a new pregnancy but I’m also trying not to get my hopes up!

I have everything crossed for you and hope you get your rainbow baby.

Fingers crossed for you too!

Feel free to message if you're getting anxious and want to compare notes/panic/moan 🤣

@Ty13 Just saw your message hun.. how did it go .. did you find out if you are actually pregnant.. if you are , how is it going, are you considered high risk ? .. had surgery about three weeks ago .. still can’t get it off my mind 😐

According to pregnancy tests, I definitely am (getting 3+ on digitals now). We think we are around 6weeks and heading for an early scan tomorrow at the EPAU, so we will have to see! I am very anxious about it.
Sorry to hear about your surgery, it’s such a horrible experience. Something I can’t believe socket going through it, is just how many people have come forward and spoke about their experiences to me and how they have been through such similar things. Sending lots of hugs and hopefully you get there 🌈

Hello; I am 9 days post EP surgery and looking for successful stories and I'm in your position, was your story successful? 🤞🏼

Unfortunately, we gave birth to our son sleeping at 17weeks and 6days in September. Everything was fine and all my scans leading up to this point had shown a healthy heartbeat and a very active baby. But when I went for a private reassurance scan at 17weeks, there was no heartbeat. I can honestly say having to give birth to our baby sleeping has been the hardest and most heart breaking thing we have ever had to do. I hope you get your rainbow baby xx

@Ty13 i couldn’t read your last message and not reply.

i am so so sorry for your loss of your baby boy. I can’t imagine your pain. Sending you the biggest warm hug through my phone.

I had an early loss last year and an ectopic in Feb which resolved itself. I’m pretty sure I’ll be confirming my second ectopic after only 2 months since my last, over the coming weeks. That is how I found this thread. I have infertility so this pregnancy was a surprise as it was natural conception as apposed to assisted with medication like my previous losses. Was so hoping this would be my double rainbow but I’m getting the exact same pain and symptoms as my ectopic.

again I’m so so sorry for your loss and I hope things are turning a corner for you ❤️
