Iv just bought some Clary Sage to induce labour - or to try to!
Im just wondering what would be a safe week to start trying, and what exactly is the most effective way for it to work; bath, rubbing it on skin, or sniffing??

Thanks

God, try the lot! I hope it works for you.

Sorry this is not what you want to hear but it did nothing for me at all. I put it in the bath, massaged in into bump in carrier oil, used it in a burner and massaged it into the relevant reflexology points (yes on the same night I was desperate). All it did was make DP threaten to leave me as it stank the house out.

I used it from 40 weeks until about 41+2, the little madam in question didn't appear until 41+5.

alarkaspree · 07/04/2008 17:37

How many weeks pregnant are you?

I used it in the bath at 41+2, went into labour within a couple of hours (of course may have been coincidence). I was getting a bit desperate and very keen to avoid induction - I wouldn't recommend using it until you've got to a similar point.

Divastrop · 07/04/2008 17:39

i wouldnt use it before week 38 personally as it can cause contractions.i used it in the bath and by inhalation when i was being induced with dd3,i dont know if it helped speed things up but it is good for relaxation, and i defo noticed contractions after inhaling it,i just dont think they were doing anything.

Flubdub · 07/04/2008 17:39

Im only 37 weeks, so wont be trying it yet.

"you shouldn't use it it can cause contractions" this is what the woman who sold it to me said

erm I'm 40 weeks pregnant can hardly walk due to SPD, feel like my fanjo is at my knees, have horrendous heartburn and a toddler to deal with of course I want it to cause bloody contractions, just sell me it now woman!

rdk · 07/04/2008 19:19

hi ladies ive never heard of this before what is it and where do u get it from thankyou .

Flubdub · 07/04/2008 19:48

I bought mine from Holland and Barratt. It was £7.19 for a tiny bottle, but I know its pure, and not had anything added to it.

Have a read here.

i got mine from the local ealth food shop for £4.70.i dont think the contractions are strong enough to bring on labour unless its ready to start anyway.i had about an hour of BH's after using it which can only be a good thing in late pregancy, surely?

sweetkitty-maybe you only look 6 months pregnant?

Divastrop · 07/04/2008 20:55

looked that should have been

sweetkitty · 08/04/2008 11:27

divastrop - I'm a size 8 and was 40 weeks pregnant with a 9lbs 3ozs baby and was a bump with legs! I think they are so hesitant to sell pregnant women anything in H&B also got a lecture about the raspberry leaf capsules as well.

Clary sage absolutely stinks btw, not the nicest essential oil.

rdk · 08/04/2008 14:01

so what do u do with it rub it into ur skin [where about on boby or dont it matter where] has anyone used it and its worked or know anyone that it worked for as im gonna wake up dp to take me to get some rite now hes asleep after doing a nite shift. hes gonna love me for waking him. ive been using rasperry leaf tablets but nothings happened really

Flubdub · 08/04/2008 14:07

Rasberry leaf is just to make the 2nd stage of labour quicker, and it worked for me, only pushed for ten minutes!

You are meant to rub it into your belly, and round your ancles, and wrists, in some kind of carrier oil apparently.

Does anyone know what the best week to start trying to 'get baby out' would be? Im 37+1.

I put mine in an oil burner - don't forget it's a natural pain reliever too so you can sniff it after labour kicks in

I loved the smell.

rdk · 08/04/2008 14:14

thanks ladies im now going to wake dp up [this will be fun ] . but saying that if it does the trick he will be glad as im really feed up and hes sick off see me sad he keeps saying to me.

mummyhill · 08/04/2008 14:27

The idea is to use a little in a carrier oil and to massage it into your belly, however please be aware that clary sage can cause very vivid and often unpleasant dreams.

Flubdub · 08/04/2008 14:38

How many weeks are you rdk?

You actually LIKE the smell, it is rotten there is no way I'm getting any this time no matter how overdue and desperate I get.

I did everything with it apart from actually eat it or stick it up my fanjo it didn't work. Right enough neither did the pineapple, curry, walks, sex, lucozade, prunes etc

Think it's the same old "they come when they are ready"

Flubdub · 08/04/2008 20:35

I quite like the smell, its like a mixture of lavender and tee tree oil.
