Refusing blood tests at first appointment

I had a MMC in April at 9 weeks, very shortly after going for routine blood tests at my booking in appointment. I’ve just found out that I’m pregnant again & wondering if I really need to have the same blood tests repeated/how necessary they are, as I absolutely hate & dread them. I know they screen for Syphilis and HIV but I’m 100% sure after the recent blood tests I don’t have these, also obviously blood type doesn’t change. Just wondering if anyone else has requested this before I speak to the midwife

It’s a full blood count they do not just for diseases. While you don’t like them it’s your future baby at stake and to keep them healthy you need to do them.

It is still important to do the group and save sample as people can develop new antibodies after a miscarriage. Also, if you lost blood during the miscarriage it might be helpful to know if you're anaemic/iron deficient so you can start treatment sooner. No one can make you have tests that you don't want, but definitely discuss the physiology with someone in real life before declining.

They test for more than just that, including iron count which is very important. Please discuss with your midwife rather than internet randoms. It's also so they have a baseline for when blood tests are repeated later in pregnancy.

@Greybeardy is right. Miscarriage can change things in your blood, be it antibodies (which could cause issues for new pregnancy) or deficiency.

Definitely do the blood test again!
I had a cmv scare at 20 weeks - they sent the blood from my 8 weeks scan (I didn't know they actually keep it for these reasons) so they compared the blood from 20 and 8 weeks - both showed the same antibodies for cmv so I knew I did got it before the pregnancy.
And there is a lot of other viruses/diseases that they will be able to check and compare later on if needed.

You’re going to have to get used to blood tests in pregnancy. No one likes them.

They picked up low iron for me at the 10 week blood test. I did feel very tired, but I put it down to pregnancy in general.
