Third trimester piles

I'm 32 weeks and for the last week have begun suffering from piles - I experienced them after birth with my first but they went away after a couple of days of germaloids and a hot bath.

This time round, it's got to the point its a struggle to push them back in and I'm uncomfortable all the time - I'm not (nor have been) constipated though, and there's no pain or blood when I pass anything.

Any tips to help alleviate them, or am I stuck with them until I give birth and beyond, owing to the pressure and obviously pushing in the future? I didn't find Anusol any good compared to germaloids the first time round - can the GP prescribe anything more medicated?

Hey hun. I’m 34+4 and I actually went to GP about this a few weeks ago and my midwife. There is nothing they are comfortable with prescribing during pregnancy. They just told me to put some lube or Vaseline there and push them back in with that 😩

Thanks @AimeeLou84 - the problem is, I'm really struggling to push them back in and when I do manage it, they come straight back out. Its a nightmare!

I’ll be honest, I can’t push mine in either. I can literally feel them constantly. They don’t hurt me or no blood etc but it’s just I know they are there and everytime I go toilet it’s just not nice. Maybe ask GP incase and if they suggest anything please let me know lol

I had terribly painful ones with my 1st pregnancy and have suffered occasionally since, I find the only thing that worked was suppositories much better than the creams which Dr recommended.

Can't use any of the suppositories whilst pregnant! But agree, after they are what worked the best!

I had this issue with my first pregnancy. I got some prescription stuff from my GP which was better than OTC but only really went away fully after birth (well, actually birth made them HORRDENDOUS for a few weeks, then went away). I've found I am far more susceptible to them in this second pregnancy, but the gel from GP seems to work well in keeping it under control. Stuff GP prescribed is called Scheriproct

My Dr and midwife recommended the suppositories when pregnant so maybe OP only use on their recommendations, I didn't realise they couldn't be generally used.

All packaging I have seen has said do not use when pregnant. My midwife did not recommend them

Sudocrem.

I had two doses of norovirus and it completely shredded my anus. I tried a few things, but Sudocrem worked the best and allowed things to heal.

Scheriproct! Really reduces the swelling. I gpt a prescription without issue in my first pregnancy and it really helped.

@TripleESept24 I've been prescribed Uniroid ointment and also suppositories from the GP, which have hydrocortisone. She was happy to prescribe. I can only use for 7 days though.

@fr4zzledmum was just about to comment to say I have been put on uniroid due to a thrombosed one. Has really helped and only took a couple days to notice a massive improvement. Still there but not as painful

TripleESept24 · 12/06/2024 08:44

@fr4zzledmum @missmoosh well if mine continue and get any worse I'll be asking for this at next midwife appt in 2 weeks!

I was very much made to feel like, oh well piles is just one of those things you'll have to put up with and see how it is after birth! With my first I had to have a small procedure after birth as they were so bad and I got a fissure!!!!!!! Hoping I don't get that again, I've just sort of got used to them! 😭
