Food aversions/fussiness during pregnancy

first baby so no experience here.
during the first trimester, I completely went off pretty much all food but especially meat. I ended up losing almost a stone because I just couldn’t eat!
since being in second trimester, my appetite has come back but I still can’t bring myself to eat certain foods. I’ve eaten meat a couple of times after testing it thoroughly with meat thermometer but finding it so hard to eat reheated food/cold foods like salad as I’m just so worried they’ll make me ill.
I feel like I was so healthy before pregnancy but now I’m living off veggie convenience food and I miss my old diet!
has anyone else experienced this and has any advice? I’m not normally a fussy eater so this is different for me.

I've had food aversions (particularly to meat) and nausea in all three of my pregnancies, and this time lost 19lbs in my 1st trimester. I'm 18 weeks now and things are getting better, but some days are still not great. My dinner is a bowl of cereal some days, and some days I manage to eat a more complete meal. My advice would be to listen to your body, try and make sure you're eating a good balance for food where you can, and make sure you keep it up with your prenatal vitamins.

That makes me feel so much better. I have cereal or crumpets for tea at least once a week because I just don’t want any food! I’ll just keep trying with the food and see how we get on. I’ve gained back 8 pounds thst I’ve lost so hopefully on the right track now. Hope your appetite comes back and your pregnancy is smooth sailing!

I enjoyed coffee before being pregnant and loved the smell but once I was pregnant, my god I could not stand the stuff. Even the smell of it made me nauseous. It’s strange what your body decides it likes/dislikes in pregnancy but not unusual OP. That was 16 years ago for me and I’m back loving then smell/taste of coffee…. Good luck with your pregnancy x

Very normal, I'm 32 weeks and still cannot eat a salad. I have no cravings and food hasn't been interesting at all, no matter what I try. There were spikes of hunger in the second and third trimester but overall I've just not been hungrier than I was before pregnancy.

This is completely normal, OP! I was hoping that after the first trimester I would like the things I’d gone off again (for me the worst thing in the world is butter, which is very inconvenient!) but no, 24 weeks and although I’m not picking up new things to go off, I still don’t want any of the things I went off at the beginning. My sister has assured me that as soon as the baby is born, everything will be completely back to normal!

In terms of how a dodgy diet might affect the baby, from what I’ve read the baby will take whatever it needs from you, regardless of your diet. Obviously healthy eating is preferable to help you keep your strength and health up, but your baby should be fine. Some people with HG barely eat anything at all throughout their pregnancy and the babies are ok!
