DH left bleach down toilet.. so scared

I know there was a similar post recently but can’t find it to read the comments for reassurance. DH put bleach down the toilet and I peed on it before it got flushed. Realised as soon as I stood up, when I smelled the bleach. I’m terrified any harm could come to my baby. Please be kind, I am receiving support for perinatal anxiety but I really can’t get out my head that bleach fumes could have got up there and hurt/poisoned the baby. I am not feeling him or her moving yet so can’t rely on that for assurance. Does anybody know if it will be ok or is it harmful?

A loved one suffered from anxious thoughts and catastrophisation. They would repeatedly ask for reassurance that things weren't harmful or they weren't going to get in trouble for something they'd done.

Sadly reassuring them didn't end the cycle. It seemed I was giving them a 'hit' of a small respite from their worries, but it could never be enough, and pretty soon they'd want another.

One for a therapist ultimately.

I worried about all sorts of things when I was pregnant, @bleachintoilet - and my doctor told me it was perfectly normal to worry, and it was our primitive brain's efforts to keep us away from danger - and that generally, those fears were not rational or real.

It doesn't make the feeling of worry any less real, though - so it is much better to share the worry and ask the question, than to keep it all inside and fret more.

I hope that the anxiety eases, and you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

I am sure I did this a bunch of times when I was pregnant as I only found out recently you are meant to flush bleach before weeing!

You're totally fine. The only danger would be to you if you did a poo and the plop splashed bleach up that burnt your bits, but that didn't happen

Somerandomgirl · 07/06/2024 13:19

I see where your worries come from but try not to worry over such things. And life is life, dont ever blame yourself if anything has ever happened before , things just happen
I followed everything by the book with my first baby, and followed nothing with my second..and guess what..my second is healthier knock wood... so... it doesnt really matter....

It's your anxiety talking, baby will be fine. I'm so sorry to hear you have perinatal anxiety, it's so horrible. I've been there and it can be suffocating. I promise it can get better.

Don't worry - bleach fumes can't go up your vag xxx

It isn’t harmful in any way shape or form. Fumes can not get up your vagina, through your cervix into your uterus and penetrate your amniotic sac, get through your amniotic fluid and to a baby who isn’t actually breathing anything yet.
