Morning,

I found out I was pregnant a few weeks ago, and as I am 40, we booked a private early viability scan to check that all was looking OK.

I had my last period on 8th April, and I am pretty regular, according to the calculations that would make me 8 weeks pregnant now.

However, on 20th May, before I booked the scan, I did another test, but this time, it was one of those that shows the weeks. It said 2-3, which means I was 4-5 weeks pregnant at that point. That was about a week less than I thought I was according to period date.

So by my calculations, I am approx 6-7 weeks pregnant now - is that correct?

We went for the scan yesterday. They had me at 8 weeks as went by last period day. She said I am not measuring as 8 weeks, I am measuring as 6 weeks and 5 days.
She said it was too early to tell if ok or for heartbeat and the fact I should be measuring as 8 weeks was concerning.
I had been spotting for 2 days and she kind of pulled a face at that and because I haven't had morning sickness, she made a face at that too!
She said it's possible that I am not as far along as I should be or that the pregnancy has stopped progressing.
I felt like she was being very sympathetic and that she thought the pregnancy had stopped.
We have had to book another scan for next week to see if there has been any growth.

Obviously now I am panicking and fearing the worse as I know how hard it is to fall pregnant outside of that window so logic tells me that the pregnancy must have terminated.

Any experiences? Sorry for long message!

@lola04 really hope it's more optimistic news at EPU. It's so hard especially when you're left in limbo. 💕

moosey89 · 05/06/2024 15:26

Sorry you're going through this stress op.

I have unfortunately had 3 missed miscarriages, where I was still very much feeling pregnant but the baby's heart had stopped. For 2 of these I measured behind at early scans around 7/8 weeks. For the third I had a good heart beat at a 7 week scan but at an 11 week scan I found out baby had stopped growing at 9 weeks. I've had surgical management 3 times and you do still test positive for usually a couple of weeks after a missed miscarriage as the hormone levels take time to fall back to pre pregnancy levels.

Obviously this isn't what happens for everyone who measures behind but it is a possibility that unfortunately the pregnancy won't last.

I hope you get good news today.

It's such a worry when scans don't match up with dates, but very often this isn't a problem.

Keeping everything crossed for you.

Sunshineclouds11 · 05/06/2024 15:36

My dates have always been out, one being an IVF.

I'm sorry the sonographer was like that, it's quite bad tbh.

Morning sickness means nothing.

I hope your ok and fingers crossed

Greenerygarden · 05/06/2024 15:46

I don’t want to give you false hope either
but the weeks indicator you did would put you around 6-7 weeks so that seems like things have progressed on track.
i was also told scans could be out by around 5 days either way. So in theory you could be just over 7 weeks.
hope you can get some clarity from epu, good luck

Just got back from the EPU.
She confirmed the measurements are approx 6 weeks and said that she would expect to hear a heartbeat by now.
She said the measurements were under their threshold whereby she could confirm today it was miscarriage so I have to go back in 2 weeks to either see growth and heartbeat or confirm a miscarriage.

She didn't sound hopeful and gave me info on miscarriage etc so I guess i have my answer. Now to process it.

I'm so sorry sorry @lola04 ❤️

GreySofaCushion · 05/06/2024 18:02

I’m very sorry OP. I’m glad they saw you. There is still a little bit of hope but appreciate the next 2 weeks will be really hard. You can always keep the private repeat scan if you want to know more sooner

Rycbar · 05/06/2024 18:06

I’m currently pregnant and officially (from my last period) I’m 6 weeks 3 days. However, I ovulate on day 20 so really, development wise I’d be at the same point as someone with a regular cycle would be at 5 weeks 3. Do you track ovulation?

Rycbar · 05/06/2024 18:08

Sorry op I replied before I saw your update. I am truly very sorry that this has happened to you.

AnnieStar12 · 05/06/2024 19:25

@lola04 im so sorry. Take time to look after yourself. Hope you have people looking after you.
theres a dedicate miscarriage board on mumsnet which is such a useful place for advice and support. I found it very helpful when I went through similar last year.
take care of yourself x

SnookyPook · 05/06/2024 20:33

@lola04 so sorry to read this update. Hope you're as ok as can be and that you have lots of good support around you. I also endorse the MN miscarriage board as a very supportive place and a good place to get some information in terms of decisions around loss etc. Sending lots of love your way. 💗

Sorry, only saw the update after I’d posted initially.

LS888 · 06/06/2024 09:16

@lola04 so sorry to read your update. Two weeks is a long time to wait for the conformation. Stay strong. Thinking of you. xx

maw1681 · 06/06/2024 10:11

Sorry you're going through this. With my second pregnancy I had no morning sickness and spotting from about 6 weeks, unfortunately I did miscarry at 9 weeks.
Then went on to have a third healthy pregnancy with my second DD. Having had such bad morning sickness with my first I just had a gut feeling there was something wrong.
Hopefully I'm wrong and all will be fine but just be prepared.

strangerontheinternet · 06/06/2024 10:42

Sorry op, it’s shit, it really is. I have had a missed miscarriage. Saw heartbeat at 7 weeks then at 11 weeks it still measured 7+1 and no hb. So had stopped growing and hb at 7+1. I have always seen a HB from 6 weeks so if it measured 6+5 with no hb then I think you need to be prepared that there is not likely to be any growth or hb. The waiting is torture, it’s so unfair x
