Breastfeeding after breast implants

Hello!

I had implants put in about 9 years ago.. over the muscle. I unfortunately had a severe case of tubular breasts and that was the reason for the surgery as it took a massive toll on my confidence. The incision was around the nipple. I am now pregnant and would ideally like to breast feed. Has anyone been In a similar situation? Was it possible for you to breast feed? I have full sensitivity in my nipples and my breasts have increased in size due to the pregnancy. I have read everything on Google and understand it's different for everyone. I have also read that over time the milk ducts can regenerate especially if the surgery was done a long time ago. But it would be great to hear of other people's experiences ❤️

I had implants in 2016 and had my son in 2018 and was able to feed him for a few days before deciding to switch to formula, I don't think this was because of the implants just not feeling fully confident with breastfeeding and the time it was taking away from my other child was becoming distressing for everyone. Mine are over the muscle but my scar is under the breast rather than around the nipple. Though you have feeling in yours and I still don't so like you say everyone is different and it might just be a case of waiting and seeing how you find it. I know a few other people with implants who said they were still able to feed. Good luck!

I don't have implants, so can't comment on that one, but I know that there is a link between tubular breasts and supply issues, so it might be worth researching that. If you can, I'd get the support of an IBCLC soon after baby is here to give you some practical support. I had the support of one after my baby was born due to my own supply and feeding issues and she was worth her weight in gold!

I had an augmentation and BF successfully. It can be more problematic for a reduction whereby the nipple was removed and replaced higher as the capillaries are severed. A simple augmentation isn't usually indicative of any BF unless you've lost sensitivity (which you haven't) or had a total nipple removal.

The only thing to bear in mind is the implant causing any pressure / obstruction whilst being engorged. Try not to leave yourself full as you may be more prone to mastitis.
