2nd labours do tend to be quicker

i think that if you go into labour at night it feels quciker, as you might well have slept through some of the earlier ctx or the latent phase and wake up when it is kicking off a bit more

2nd dc for me - had him at 3.14am, labour about 3 hours, so yes for me

your body is more likely to go into labour at night - goes back to when women hid in caves in the dark to have their babies to hide from predators. also if you have had dc before, there are hormones etc in your body that switch off when your dc are asleep or away from you, again at night, so more likely then.

1st 7 1/2 labour during the day, 2nd 2 1/2 born at 11.30pm. Midwife told me to go in at the first twinge (due to speed of first labour) but I forgot and only made it with 1/2 hour to go! This one is going to be born at home (I hope) as I wished that was what I had planned for no2.

I have also been wondering about the night time thing - went into labour in the middle of the night both times, but both DCs born the following evening. Unfortuately I woke up during the v mild early contractions though, would have liked to have slept through them but couldn't, and by the time I was awake I was too excited to get back to sleep!!

I was told that your more likely to go into labour at night as that is when your muscles relax making it more likely. Dont know how true that is though

Went into labour with DS1 at 1.50am, 9 hour labour. With DS2, started at 3.30pm, 3 and a half hour labour. So definitely quicker, but no similarities with the time.

thanks for your messages, it seems if you're more relaxed then maybe with a possibility of darkness!

ds1 - in labour at 3.30am -10hr labour
ds2 - in labour at 3.30am - 5hr labour
dd1 - in labour at 1.20am -3hr labour

So for me I have always gone into labour at night/early hours and they have got shorter everytime.

Think this on is just going to pop out in my sleep

Friends first baby 2 hour labour. She woke early in the morning, only just got to hosp in time, they did not beleive her when she said how far her contractions were apart!

She has scolios (sp) of the spine, and throughout her life has had almost constant pain to deal with, so it is thought that she slept through much of the actual labour as her body was used to the pain. So she did not necessarily have a short labour, just felt like it!

I went into lbour between midnight and 2am with all three of mine. First dc was born 48h later, 2nd dc 27h later, and 3rd dc 2h later. So each child faster, yes, but quicker labours if they start at night - no!
