How long between csection pregnancies?

Had a C-section 6 weeks ago and the surgeon told me I should wait 12 - 18 months to get pregnant again to give my uterus time to heal. Today my GP said it was 2 years to wait?

Im not planning on having another right away but I’m 35 so didn’t really want to wait 2 years for next DC. Just curious what guidance others have been given?

I had 23 months between both my c sections. I fell pregnant again when my little one was 14 months. Everyone heals differently, I was physically back to myself within 6 months of my first child.
I found the second pregnancy very tough going as I wasn’t able to rest the same way as the first pregnancy. The c section would was fine though!

I know quite a few people who left it a year before trying and it was fine

ie oldest is coming up to 2 or just 2 when sibling is born.

I had a c section at 35 and waited 12 months to try again. Then it took a LONG time to conceive and eventually had another child aged 40, also by caesarean. I don’t really know what to advise - maybe if we’d tried sooner we wouldn’t have had the long and torturous route to a second child. But maybe not waiting would have caused risks to a pregnancy.

everything is a risk. You just have to try to make the best decisions you can with the information you have.

I think it depends if you want another C section. I've heard if you want another C section waiting 12 months to get pregnant again is fine as the risk of uterine rupture is highest with natural birth.

I was told that I was "a good candidate" for a Vbac as I've had longer than 24 months since my c-section. So amongst other things, I think it's a case of ensuring your scar is healed to the best of it's abilities. I would imagine the risk is less of course if you're going straight for a second caesaerian and not considering vbac.

My obstetrician told me a year to allow the best chance of healing.

I had my second and third c-sections just under a year apart. My doc said it was fine to TTC after 6 weeks as everything was healed by then. I had no issues at all.

I think it depends on who you ask. I've been told 12 months min, 2 and 3 years. I only have one but I've friends that have a few and most notably, one got pregnant the very first time she ovulated so around 10 months age gap. Another as soon as she stopped breast feeding so it was 6/7 months and a 15/16 month age gap. Both were fine.

My friend got pregnant 6m later and she is now about 5 m pregnant - she said it's sore she can feel her scar tissue stretching

I had two csections 18 months apart. Lots of extra checks in second pregnancy - worries about placenta accreta and placenta previa which are more likely having had a C-section before. I also got infections in my old scar during my 2nd pregnancy which were difficult to treat. I'd hoped for a Vbac but became very unwell during labour as did the baby so it was a crash c section. Even though it was more traumatic, I physically recovered from the 2nd section quicker than the first.

I didn't know anything about the increased risks beforehand and possibly would have waited a little bit longer if I had.

I had just under 21 months between my sections and tried to have an induced VBAC with the second, which the consultant was happy with (failed to progress in the end). I had been told to wait a year before getting pregnant (I did do this but I got pregnant very quickly and DD2 had to arrive slightly early!) but then after DD2 was told to leave it two years if I wanted another.

I think it's not entirely a blanket rule - depends on a number of things I think, including maternal age and how the original C-section went.
