Hi

So, I'm 5 weeks and early on I had dark brown spotting and that stopped. But now a week later I'm having some rusty red/red bleeding. Not enough to fill a pad but definitely drops on the pad and in the toilet when I pee. See photo of this morning - sorry if TMI.

Did anyone have this and go on to have a healthy pregnancy? Literally just cried down the phone to the GP. 😞

Me! Both of my healthy babies scared me to death in early pregnancy. With my first DD I had a light period on and off for the first few weeks, and my pregnancy with second DD was much worse. I had proper heavy period bleeding and cramps for days at a time for the first three months. There was no explanation for either, the docs just said it's really common, happens a lot, they don't know why.

Honestly I thought it was game over so many times. There's still hope until after seven weeks and they tell you there's no heartbeat. Hang in there Flowers

Thank you so much for responding. I had an ectopic in 2020 and lost a tube, so now any sign of anything and it drives me loopy. Still showing as pregnant on a test so I'm clinging on to that.

Was your bleeding bright red then? Sorry to ask, it's just that is the thing that is making me so worried as they say 'as long as it's dark brown' you're fine.

So glad it worked out for you 😊

Yes, it was bright red blood, and varied from a few drops to a proper heavy period. I just could not believe that the baby had survived each time we had a scan (and I was under a fertility clinic so I had several scans early on in each pregnancy). Every time we went in I expected them to say "no, sorry, it's gone". They said it could be things like subchorionic haemorrhage or blood trapped somewhere that works itself out as the foetus develops, but they didn't know for sure, just said they see it all the time.

Ah you poor thing. I know how it feels to be pregnant after struggles. I had four cycles of IVF before we had our first baby and a pregnancy is such a precious thing, you end up terrified of losing it. Your bleeding looks quite light though, I'm hoping there's no cause for alarm. Do you have any cramps or backache?

Thanks for coming back to me @RedPandaFluff

I feel reassured you also had bright red too, it's got a little heavier today. Still not filling a pad, just a few larger drops and a bit of blood when I pee and when I wipe. It looks pretty scary. I have no cramps or pain or anything. did you?

Midwife said on the phone she isn't that concerned as I'm not having cramps, but the bleeding is really making me think it's probably not good news so I am preparing myself ahead of my early scan.

Also, congrats on your little one. I really hope it's mine time soon :)

Update: Turns out it was a miscarriage. Ended up in A&E with cervical shock and they had to perform a procedure to help me. Incredibly painful and sad. Trying to find hope for the future though.

Ahh @Tally89 I'm so sorry to read this! You poor thing. You must be heartbroken. I know I felt very desolate after miscarriages because you just feel like it's never going to happen for you.

How are you feeling now, physically? It sounds like you've had a really tough time of it.

Tally89 · 09/06/2024 16:07

@RedPandaFluff thanks for checking in, very kind of you. I do feel very sad and a bit sore. I didn't know this kind of miscarriage could even happen, the pain was unbearable. But, I'm thankful to still be here and the midwife and gynae doctor seemed to be very positive about my chances of having a healthy pregnancy in the future. Just need some time to heal emotionally.
