I've previously had HG with my last pregnancy. And it was awful, in and out of hospitals on saline drips and iv anti sickness was the only way to combat it.

However this time, 4 years later. I don’t seem to be being sick but I'm constantly nauseous, can't stop retching, have this awful 'cotton ball' feeling in my throat and don’t have an appetite atall.
I can't bring myself to eat.
I'm only 6 weeks pregnant but I've spent all weekend in bed crying.
I've had agonising stomach pains/cramps and this nauseous feeling is over powering everything.

I've tried attempting to eat little and often but it's making me feel worse and fluids are the only things that I'm able to bring myself to consume.

I don’t remember anything helping me last time other than the IV's from the hospital.

I guess I'm looking for somewhere to vent cause I feel like an awful mum and wife spending days on end in bed, I'm not able to go to work like this either ( I work in a busy outpatient clinic scanning patients all day)
Plus I feel like because I'm not being sick I'm just overreacting.

Is there anything anyone has found to ease the symptoms atall other than the usual ones that come up with Google...

Sympathies op, hope you're doing ok - it's bloody gruelling. Is it acid reflux you're suffering with? For me bananas helped with the nausea, and love hearts for the reflux. But definitely ask for something if you're really struggling!

Feel like I could have written this myself. Been so nauseous and crying, feeling sorry for myself. But also not sure if I'm bad enough for treatment/meds because I'm not actually vomiting too much!! But also can't face another 4 weeks of this (almost 8 weeks pregnant)!! It's not easy!

Icy smoothies, vitamins B6 and B12. Made a huge difference for me.

I’m in the same boat OP. It really is horrible and so much more difficult when you’ve another child to care for.

I find sipping on really cold squash and eating ice lollies and crackers is helpful. Just enough carbs/ sugar/ fluids to sustain me so I don’t faint but not so much that I want to vomit.

I'm 8 weeks and exactly the same as you. It's really tough. My last pregnancy wasn't this hard. I'm a teacher and I'm off work today (and probably the rest of the week) because I can barely look after myself and my toddler let alone 30 x 7 year olds.
I was OK with eating but I'm getting to the point now where I'm really put off by food too.
I've got anti sickness meds off the doctor but they're not doing a great deal other than making me tired (they're sedatives too). You could ask for some they might take the edge off and it doesn't matter if you're not actually being physically sick loads. I don't have any amazing advice but just wanted to empathise with how hard it is!

You are not over reacting! I think you should get to the GP for anti sickness meds ASAP - to be honest it’ll probably get worse before it gets better and as you’ve already done a pregnancy on IVs you need to get in front of the sickness before it takes you out completely. You’re beyond the stage of “little and often” and “try a ginger biscuit”, you’re into the realms of needing hardcore anti-emetics.

Please give the doctor a phone this morning. Hope you feel better soon.

CaptainCabinets · 03/06/2024 11:09

I’m almost 12 weeks and have been feeling like this since 6 weeks so you have my sympathies! I finally caved last week because I was fed up of crying all day because I felt so sick and so hungry simultaneously and approached my GP for some anti-emetics, which she mercifully agreed to give me for the really bad days!

LER2023 · 04/06/2024 06:41

I had this with my last pregnancy, it was horrible! I just laid on the sofa sobbing that I felt so nauseous that I could barely eat or cook or anything.

I found ice lolly’s helped so much, especially the fruity ones!
and I had a box of crackers and ginger biscuits with me wherever I went. I mean they helped for like 5 minutes and then I’d have to munch on more of them!

I actually ended up going to work and taking a pack of ginger biscuits with me and sharing them with my boss before I told her I was pregnant, she quickly realised why I had ginger biscuits when I told her and then felt bad for eating some of them🤣🤣

the retching is vile, me and my partner will probably remember it for the rest of our lives because he still laughs at me now!!

I was trying to cook mince for a spag bol as I was really wanting a spag bol while my nausea was low.. god that was such a bad idea! I was stood retching next to the mince and all I could hear was my partner laughing at me every time I retched at the smell of it🤣🤣

So with my pregnancies I have extreme hg which isn't fun!
I spoke to loads of professionals this time and was told to try ondansetron. It's AMAZING!
You can have 2/3 tablets each day but I play by ear as sometimes I don't need one all day as it's still working in my system.
Might be worth if you're struggling to try cyclizine which is the go to sickness med and if this doesn't work (never did for me) then ask for ondansetron.
It takes me from crying, heaving, vomiting, sweating and can barely move to being able to drink and eat (only small portions so I don't overdo myself) and at least I'm able to get out of bed and play with my kids 💖

ttcnumero1 · 04/06/2024 13:53

I went to my doctor today and got prescribed cyclizine. Has worked wonders already. I just ate soup and a roll for my lunch. Haven't been able to eat more than 2 bites of anything for the last 5 days. Hoping this continues to help!!
