Yep, you will still need samitary towels and get high waisted knickers.

When they do the op it will feel like someone washing up in your tummy and you won't be able to feel your legs.

Don't do too much.

Don't worry. It's really quick and over in no time - no pain and you get to see your lovely new baby all the quicker ! Plus you aren't knackered from pushing !! I found the recovery time very quick - although it is different for everyone.

I was aiming for a homebirth and ended up with an emerg cs instead. I was really gutted about it, but tbh I had a really easy and quick recovery from the cs.

Take the pain relief they give you regularly and on time. This should keep the pain away (it's harder to get rid of the pain once it sets in apparantly).

Bathe every day and thoroughly pat your scar dry. I put lavender oil in my bath as it can promote healing.

Start drinking as much water as you can once you're back on the ward. As soon as your pee runs clear they can take the catheter out (although you probably will have to ask them to do it).

Get up and about as soon as you can. The blood circulating around your body helps the healing of your scar and will lower the risk of dvt. Am thinking a small stroll up the ward (with someone beside you) to start with. Then go a little further each time.

Be yourself and not a patient. You do have to take things easier, but you don't need to have everything done for you - iyswim.

Everytime you go to the loo, take a sanitary towel with you. You may bleed more than you expect, so to have to shuffle back to your bed to get another towel is a pain - quite literally!

I had my cs on Sun morning and was home for lunch the next day. I was highly motivated by not wanting to be there, but I also don't think I done anything out of the ordinary to get home so quick.

Good luck xx

Hello,
You'll be in theatre for about 3/4 of an hour and will be given a spinal block so you'll be numb from the chest down. I stayed in three days after my section - had dd at 10.30 weds morning and had the catheter removed 6am thursday and was encouraged to get up and about, shower etc, thursday morning. I'd second ILikeToMoveItMoveIt's comment about the painkillers afterwards, take them regularly when they are offered. Also second the high-waisted knickers idea, I got some M&S 'granny' pants 2 sizes bigger than usual and they were really comfy.

I third the ILikeToMoveItMoveIt's comment bout the painkillers and the big knicks. I got mine from M and , still wearing them now, tres comfy.

I had my c-section on the monday at 8.15 and was out by wednesday morning, you do still bleed I bled for 10 WEEKS .

Get up as soon as you can (I was fine to have a shower in the afternoon (ds was born at 9:45am)), stay on top of your pain relief (ie take it regularly even if you're feeling good), don't get constipated.

I had a great c-section, it was lovely!

saturn · 06/04/2008 19:53

i had to have a c-section and someone on here recommended peppermint tea as you get bad wind afterwards. i can recommend you to get some in as it really does help

vicky11 · 06/04/2008 20:05

my dp has just informed me that I had world record length trumps after too !!! I certainly didn't remember that!!
I do remember being encouraged to walk to private room at 3 in morning (before anyone else napped it) that was 16 hours after.
Ask for a cot bed (attached to ypur bed) for baby, I literally used to slide dd across to me by blanket to b/f!!
arnica cream works a treat for brusing
I had a great c-section too!! But hoping for vbac 16 months later (due in 1 week)!!

Doobydoo · 06/04/2008 20:34

Good Luck to you both.Am very excited for youTry not to worry too much and make sure you eat the night before.I had loads of toast and butter in the hosp with a cup of strong tea and sugars!I t was fab

sophiewd · 06/04/2008 20:42

Good luck, don't forget pain meds, and take things very slowly afterwards, have mine in 10 weeks.

Buckets · 07/04/2008 17:07

I'd also recommend getting up ASAP. With my first CSec I was up showering in 16hrs. With my 2nd at a different hospital they liked you to stay in bed for 24hrs which seemed like a good idea at the time but I feel I recovered better the first time. Having my 3rd in Aug and will def chase for catheter removal ASAP.
