Extreme fatigue

I'm about 9 and a half weeks pregnant with my second and I am so unbelievably tired and have the nausea too. All I can think about is the next time I can sleep and I'm sleeping over 8 hours and napping 2 hours a day with my 2 year old.
I have such lack of motivation to do anything. I just can't get myself going. I'm usually energetic and positive but I feel quite low.
Is this normal?
I want to add I'm extremely grateful for the pregnancy as our first baby was IVF and I never thought this would happen for us. I feel so lucky.
When did the tiredness ease for you ? I never felt like this with my first pregnancy.

The start of my last pregnancy was like this. Normal symptoms but ramped up. Turns out to be twins but only one was viable.

With my second I felt flattened from the off. It was my only pregnancy symptom up until 10+ weeks. I experienced nothing like it with my first.

I had it for the entire pregnancy, but it was at its worst during the first trimester. I had very little energy for doing much with my toddler (then 22 months). Fortunately the first trimester for me was during the summer and early autumn, so it was mostly nice, and DD's pretty good at entertaining herself anyway. Still probably watched far to much TV whilst I crashed on the sofa though, but whatever it takes to get you through the day.

There was no physiological explanation. All my bloods were fine, and I was taking my vitamins. So it probably is normal sadly, and part and parcel of being pregnant with a toddler.

Yes it's probably normal, I haven't had bloods done yet but was anaemic when I had my son.
I honestly feel so unwell. My diet is terrible which doesn't help as it's mainly carbs because I feel so sick.

I had overwhelming tiredness in my second pregnancy. We were on holiday when I was 8 weeks and I had to have a nap every day after lunch. It stopped at about 12 weeks thankfully. Bloods were always normal. I hope you feel better soon.

Both my pregnancies did that to me. Second pregnancy I spent a lot of time just sitting/lying down with toddler (when not at work - I don't know how I did it!). I recall eating more ice cream/lollies than normal cos it meant me and toddler both sat still for 15 mins. I look back on it fondly now

Sounds very normal. First baby I was pregnant during COVID, napped a lot but that was fine. Second I was chasing a toddler. Absolutely ruined. Got a bit better around 15 weeks I think, but I was very tired the whole pregnancy.

I had this with my first, had to take a week off work at about 10 weeks because I just couldn’t function. Had iron levels tested, all normal. Went away after about 12 weeks. My second pregnancy with toddler in tow was overall more tiring but I didn’t feel that absolute exhaustion again.

vipersnest1 · 01/06/2024 21:21

Definitely get your bloods done to check you aren't anaemic.
If it comes back normal, (and even if it doesn't) get in the habit of taking a Power Nap. Even ten minutes of closing your eyes and relaxing can help.

Your post could be me. 10w today with no2, my toddler is 2.5 and so full of beans and I just want to lie on the floor. I did actually fall asleep on the floor the other day while she played with jigsaws beside me. No idea how long I slept, I just woke when my husband came home!!! I can't remember being this fatigued first time round but then I could have just taken myself off for a nap!

Doesn't help that my daughter only wants me 😭

It is so hard!!

Omg this sounds just like us.
Toddler is also nearly 2 and a half and he's sooo energetic. He wants me to constantly play peppa pig and talk all the characters. Which is lovely , but I am sooooo tired. I literally get a pillow and lie down and half heartedly talk Richard rabbit and friends for hours on end 😅.
I definitely didn't feel this sick with him.

It's awful isnt it. This is my third week off sick from work (I work part time) because I just couldn't cope there. I felt unsafe working as I was so unbelievably drained. Nothing relieves the tiredness. Even after a nap I feel drained. X

Reassuring to know it did improve. I really hope it does for me too x
