Maternity pay

Hi,
I wanted to know if anyone has had NHS OMP but not SMP (I’m starting a new band 8a job at 3 months pregnant part time 3 days and staying in my old band 7 job where I’ve been for many years 2 days). I believe I won’t be entitled to SMP in my new job but should do at my current 2 day job which I’m keeping.
Has anyone been in a similar position and did you manage to survive financially? Is losing out on SMP a big financial hit? I know I can apply for MA potentially but it’s not much. I’m worried about my mortgage obviously! Thanks in advance!

Is the two jobs in the same trust ??

Yea you should be because the NHS, regardless of trust, when it comes to maternity pay is classed as one organisation. I had my child while at the NHS a while ago however so rules could have changed.

different trusts, so I know about the rules for continuous service in one trust by QW etc (because each trust is seen as a different employer) just more wondering if anyone knows the actual numbers / finances and effects.

Staying within the NHS your maternity entitlement shouldn’t be affected by a change of job even if changing trust.

If you’re keeping the 2 day per week job at your original trust, wouldn’t you be taking maternity at both jobs? If you are remaining employed on the 7 part time and taking maternity from that role, you might qualify for smp, might be worth working out your earnings on those 2 days per week and checking if it would meet the earnings threshold, and you try and discuss with payroll team from the band 7 trust?

Statutory Maternity Pay ( SMP )

To qualify for SMP you must: earn on average at least £123 a week. give the correct notice and proof you're pregnant. have worked for your employer continuously for at least 26 weeks continuing into the 'qualifying week' - the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth.
