This is my second rodeo, so you'd think I'd know what to pack😂

But I'm a bit concerned I'm missing stuff. I've bought -

1x loose strappy nighty for labour
1x spare nighty
1x pjs set which us t shirt and trousers
Trainer socks
6x pair of black high waisted briefs
2x packs of maternity towels
Nipples pads
A 9 pack of disposable briefs (adult nappies basically)
Toiletries
Hairbrush/hair bits

Cool mist spray
Witch hazel
Toothbrush and paste
Sponge
Towel
Spare pillow and a blanket to add a bit of home
900ml drinking bottle
Face wipes
Lip balm
Crocs & slippers
Thin Dressing gown
5x sports bras (I'm not breast feeding)
Coming home outfit

Do I need more of the nightwear front?

Hi OP,

I have also just finished packing mine at 38+5!

I usually pack snacks and juice with lots of sugar for energy. Also, music and speaker if that is your thing (love to blast calming music during the start of labour).

If up to me I would also pack another trousers to sleep (in case maternity pad leaks).

Of course birth plan and notes.

Good luck!

Face cream!

extrastrong · 29/05/2024 19:05

Definitely some body lotion/moisturiser. Hospitals are so dehydrating.

Hello!

I found a peri bottle was really good while I was in hospital/at home after having DS

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lansinoh-Post-Birth-Wash-Bottle-360ml/dp/B092JHDFD6/ref=asc_df_B092JHDFD6/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=501077719658&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8265436066747814632&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006956&hvtargid=pla-1303690822543&psc=1&mcid=6c3d200f471733398e2a37f85244812a&th=1&psc=1

I liked that it was a gentle way to feel a bit more fresh and clean between changing maternity pads, especially as I had a few stitches.

I'm 26 weeks at the moment, curious to see what other recommendations you get ☺️

Are you packing anything for the baby? Clothes, nappies etc. If you’re not breast feeding then do you need bottles and formula?

Brbreeze · 29/05/2024 19:24

Sounds good to me! If you end up staying an extra night then someone can bring extra pjs as needed.

I just had my second, hospital bag was not packed when my waters broke. Despite my first being just before 37 was I was determined I'd go full term this time but no, she arrived exactly the same gestation as my first!

I just chucked a few things in a bag and managed fine, despite a 4 night stay.

I'm sorry, but I laughed reading this😂 I thought I would just keep my baby naked and no nappy!

I've packed a separate bag for the baby. Clothes, nappies, wipes, hats, vests, different size babygrows, blankets, bibs, muslin cloths, pre made bottles

I vowed that if by some miracle I'd had a second that I'd pack a big pack of dried apricots. Had to make do with just the one little miracle so I didn't have to face a second postpartum 💩.

Oooooh - yes! Prunes and apricots.

MissDolly95 · 29/05/2024 20:36

@Runningupthecurtains a horrifying memory unlocked😭😭 I had forceps with my first and was cut front to back so that first 💩 was eye watering

Mine was a C-section probably a totally different pain but still the stuff of nightmares. Sorry to remind you but pack those prunes!

Spritz your bitz I think it's called!

If you have a vaginal birth it's a lovely spray to sooth and help heal.

I think it's from my expert midwife. A bit pricy (for what it is) but I used after I had my third baby and wished I had it for the first two!

Congratulations by the way!

Saffster2024 · 29/05/2024 21:12

I’m thinking more post-birth here:

Headphones and changer pack for phone
Good book
Loads of snacks
Nice toiletries for shower and body
Make up and face creams

Pinkstuffs · 29/05/2024 21:15

I felt like a fool carrying so much to hospital so packed 1 nights worth and left the rest in the car for DH to bring if I had to stay in. I didn’t use much from it in the end as had a csection and I couldn’t get to my bags! I would take plenty of snacks as hospital food is awful and I found I kept missing meals due to being monitored, examined etc

WhenSunnyGetsBlue · 29/05/2024 21:37

I packed light and even then didn't use most of the stuff, it all fitted in my handbag.

Stuff I wish I'd bought with me...

a phone charger

More snacks

Something to do in case you end up waiting around. I took a book and finished it on the ward, that was the last book I read since I had my daughter!

Baby grow in tiny baby. Newborn size drowned my daughter and she was full term.

LovelyBitOfSquirrelll · 29/05/2024 22:43

I took a handheld fan last time as the post-natal ward was really hot x

This is what I was going to add!
Also snacks and some lucozade sport drinks.

FeelingSad2024 · 30/05/2024 09:06

Super long charging cables plus a multi port plug. Saved my sanity when the plug sockets were across the room

A USB operated mini fan. Or battery hand-held mini fan.

Snacks! Easy to eat snacks which won't upset your stomach. Sweets for when in labour.

Straw for the water bottle if it doesn't already have one
