Anterior Placenta

Hey

I was told at my 12 week scan I had an anterior placenta (this is my first baby). I started to feel flutters around 16/17 weeks and now at 22 weeks I can feel him stronger however I was just wondering at what point will his movements become stronger with an anterior placenta and when are babies expected to have some kind of pattern?

Having an anterior placenta gives me some anxiety as some days I feel him more than others but I have been told this is normal and to be expected due to the placenta cushioning his kicks etc. Most people I speak to in person have never heard of an anterior placenta so would be nice to hear other peoples experiences who have had or do have an anterior placenta ☺️

Hi I am 36+3 with an anterior placenta I started feeling proper movement around 22-23 weeks and could see kicks outside from about 30 weeks I think. I have never noticed a pattern as such but just been aware when I haven't felt anything in a few hours so will concentrate on baby until I feel something. I was in my scan even at 32 weeks and could see baby moving but couldn't feel it so don't worry too much. Now I feel her a lot through the day and it can be quite strong so I'm almost glad of an anterior placenta!

I'm 36+3 with DC3 with an anterior placenta. DC1 was also anterior placenta and DC2 was posterior. It took me a while to feel proper movements with both anterior pregnancies and some days I could feel them more than others. I can definitely feel them all the time now tho! I wouldn't worry too much, I think it's normal and every baby has a different pattern. The placenta can cushion kicks but if you are worried always ask your mw

Same for me! Agree with this

@JRTfan Thankyou for answering! I was wondering when I'd be able to feel him from the outside, when I put my hand on my belly I can feel it slightly but i do have to concentrate. I'm just eager to be able to feel him properly I guess haha!

@Suchardchoccy Thankyou for replying, my midwife said when I last seen her at 16 weeks that it's normal to not establish a pattern until 24-28 weeks however it varies from baby to baby as some babies are just generally less active in the womb. He seems to be active from around 11 up until late afternoon, he does have days where he is more quiet but my mw didn't seem concerned and just said with an anterior placenta the quieter days may just mean he has moved position where the placenta is covering his kicks more

I’m 30 weeks with anterior placenta and baby has been super active since about 24 weeks. It’s a big baby though so might be easier for me to feel.

Happyharper · 28/05/2024 14:31

Me! I'm 22 weeks and only just started feeling her.

Sounds about right to me. Trust your midwife 😊 also with feeling baby on the outside, both my anterior pregnancies took a bit longer with that, it felt like ages until I could feel them. Now I can see my tummy moving around and feel knees and feet which is quite weird!!
