Getting labour going before induction

Sure it’s been asked a million times - but will be induced next week just after my due date on consultants recommendation.

realllllly don’t want to be induced, but also don’t feel like baby is coming in the next few days.

anything that any of you have done that you’re convinced brought labour on for you? I have a sweep booked in prior to this and this has helped me with previous labours, but feel like twinges had already begun before I had these done before.

TIA

Antenatal expressing!
There's some good videos on YouTube demonstrating techniques.
You may need to try several times, and works best when you are relaxed and comfortable (as you possibly can be at this late stage of pregnancy!)

Here's what I used... Hope it helps!!

Aromatherapy (rose, Clary sage and maybe any other smells you like)

Spinning babies

Curb walking

Baking, buying myself some flowers, going for a nice walk with DH, watching my favourjte film on my yoga ball and generally having a really lovely day before labour started.

To avoid a medical induction, I would seek out a good acupuncturist and/or reflexologist. They do have strict guidelines, but if you're full term, they might be able to help nudge you along.

I would also second clary sage and Spinning Babies exercises to balance your body and get baby aligned properly. I had a long slow start to labour with my first two, with stop-start contractions over days, and what I think made the difference both times was repeating the Miles circuit from Spinning Babies, and having a warm bath with Epsom salts and a LOT of clary sage oil. Hope that helps!

by this do you mean colostrum? sorry if thats a stupid question. im booked for induction in 2 weeks and a bit but hoping to go into labour naturally too! ive been hand exspessing 2 times a day and had lots of Braxton hicks since !

how many times a day are you even meant to do it? ive been doing twice a day for like 30 mins

I took raspberry leaf tea capsules - well,
singular capsule, went into labour about 4 hours later (was due to be induced 2 days later and was desperate to avoid it mainly because I preferred to be in labour at home and relaxed for as long as possible ideally!).
Obviously we’ll never know if I would have gone into labour spontaneously but it might help 😊 good luck!

You may not want to hear this but sex seemed to do the trick for us. Was scheduled for induction the following week (Mon) , didn't particularly want this due to being told it can be very intense labour. Had sex on the Thursday evening and within 2 hours my waters had broken and went fully into labour the following morning.

When I was pregnant, the only things that there was any evidence for iirc were nipple stimulation, but for like a couple of hours a day I think, and sex. Lots of people swear by reflexology but I don't know if there's actually evidence for that, there wasn't a decade ago.
Eating dates every day is supposed to help you have an easier labour too.
Good luck!

Definitely sex...twice daily if possible 😬

SouthwestSis · 29/05/2024 07:57

@Monstersicisn yes that's great if you're getting colostrum. I'd probably go for slightly shorter sessions than 30 mins, and maybe increase to 3 times a day as you get closer to due date.?
