Flying while pregnant

Hi everyone, I have booked a last minute flight and I will be flying when I will be 22w5d. It’s a long flight but with one stop on the way. I’m now panicking because I already have a toddler and now flying while pregnant, is there any advice or anything I need to do while flying? And is it definitely safe to fly while pregnant sorry I’m just really anxious. Thanks x

Wear travel stockings, make sure you move around a few times during the flight.

I’ve bought the boots flight socks, would those be okay? They do say for travelling

How long is the flight? I'd recommend discuss with your caregiver as depending on if you have any additional VTE risk factors you may be recommended to take Heparin injections for long haul. Each hospital has a policy and risk assessment they can do for you. And get some medical grade compression socks from your hospital.

It’s 2 hours first flight then 3h30m next flight. But because it was last minute thing and tomorrow is bank holiday I have no way in contacting my midwife as I’m leaving early morning Tuesday

I wouldn’t say that’s a long flight, with the break. Just walk around where you can. And make sure you can access medical care where you’re going, and have insurance if necessary. I’m flying 3 hours this week, my midwife said the socks aren’t necessary short haul unless you have an existing risk.

My DDIL flew 10 hours at 6 months pregnant. She is a healthy person with no health issues and she had a healthy pregnancy up til then (and continued healthy - gorgeous baby now 6 months). Her midwife said there was no reason not to fly just keep moving around the cabin and keep hydrated. If you have no health issues there is no reason why you should have a problem apparently.

Ah no that's fine! I thought you meant long haul like 8+ hours. Just move around, do ankle/calf exercises and stay really well hydrated! Wear the flight socks anyway no harm. But you'd often be sitting in work for longer so that's not too long at all. Enjoy!

I flew long haul throughout my entire pregnancy until 36 weeks. Flight socks,
hydration and movement are even more important if you’re flying while pregnant.

Yes, flight socks from boots will be fine.
