Nuchal Results for 35+ mums

Anyone happy to share results? I was younger for previous pregnancies so was looking at odds of thousands. I am now 35 and my result for DS is 1:491, which I understand is technically low risk, but seems so much higher than I expected.

Thank you.

I was 38 and got 1:110 which fell into high risk. I had the Harmony NIPT and got 1:10,000.

I was told my age contributed to the high risk result. I also had higher HCG levels too.

I was 1 in 137 risk for the 3 syndromes (I’m 40 a month after I’m due to give birth). Risk was due to my age and original bloods as couldn’t get NT measure from scan. Come back low risk after NIPT

I'm 35, NT measured 1.8mm and risk came out around 1:5,000

Was that with the regular testing or NIPT? My NT was 1.33 so I expected a bigger result than 1:491

I had decided against Harmony as it has a larger false positive rate, and then I didn’t want to feel that I had to do further testing if that came back low. I don’t know what is for the best.

I'm 35, NT was 2.3mm. Adjusted risk trisomy 21 was 1:3,126 and trisomies 13/18 < 1:20,000.

SouthwestSis · 26/05/2024 08:00

@Saffster2024 that was just the usual NHS combined screening

See this is what I find confusing. Same age, my NT was lower but my risk is much higher.

I don’t know what to do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My understanding is that they use other markers from your blood test to calculate the score so it isn't only NT.

Foxtrotbeta · 26/05/2024 08:26

I think the other markers are free beta HCG and PAPP-A, then also age, smoking, previous pregnancy history, weight and fetal heart rate.

Saffster2024 · 26/05/2024 08:58

Yes, my blood test results were all much higher than with my previous pregnancy.

I was 38 with DD and got a 1:5000 result so we didn’t do the NIPT privately. Now 41 and 9 weeks with baby 2, so expecting a much higher result. We’re going to wait though for results of NHS scan and combined test to decide what to do re. private NIPT. May well be referred for it via NHS of course, but we’ve decided anything higher than 1:1000 and we’ll do privately it for peace of mind.

I was 35 when I had my youngest and my result was right at the border of what they class as higher risk. I can't remember the exact number now sorry (she is a fit and healthy 7 year old now) possibly around 1:251 anyway is was 1 point outside what they classed as higher risk and my previous two pregnancies were more like 1:10000ish so I did panic. We decided to pay for nipt testing and the result for that was very reassuring and set our minds at ease straight away. We were also able to find out she was a girl at about 13wks which was a nice bonus. We were definitely reassured by the nipt testing.

Having said that, your 'risk' equates to something like a 0.2% chance of there being a problem. So you're looking at odds of 99.8% that everything is perfectly normal, which I think everyone would be happy with as a result in any exam! So whilst it's a higher risk than you expected or hoped for, it is still very small. 🙂
