Baby's kicks less hard?

Nearly 30 weeks now and baby has been ok and moving and I can feel movement and kicks etc but the last couple of weeks have been less hard than they were before - previously could see through my stomach but not really now. I think it's just cos she's moved quite low in my pelvis and I think she's kicking more internally (I feel a lot of sharp kicks to my bladder) so I think that's why I don't feel her as much.

I went in last week for low movement and had my growth scan and she passed both with flying colours but is this normal at this stage for her to be kicking more internally than externally. I don't have another in person appt for two weeks and not sure what to do.

I'm also worried she's gone so low in my pelvis esp as I had my first at 34 weeks (spontaneous and no apparent reason for it)

Anyone else had similar experiences

Regardless of what anyone says on here go and get baby checked out just incase. I went in a few times due to this and was always told they prefer u to come in than not. My baby was fine in the end just being a pickle but that's not always the case.

@Bells3032
If you ever experience a change in your babies movements, the strength, the timings, the amount.

Always call your maternity triage/day unit.

It's always better to ask advice and express your concerns, they will reassure you or ask you to go in.

I've been in 3 times in my pregnancy... only found at 27+4 and 36+1 now and it's not many weeks but still been in 3 times!

Peace of mind is so important xx

I did call them when this first started and went in for checks. it was also my third time. baby was fine and i had a scan booked a couple of days later which also showed she was fine. I've messaged my midwife today but no response yet. hopefully will get one later

Have you tried all the old tricks of ice cold water, moving around in different ways yourself to encourage her to move in a different way?

Hello! Absolutely get it checked out if you're worried. I've been in about 6-7 times and it sounds similar. The movements totally changed around 29 weeks and her routine has gone. Now I've noticed she has active days and non active days, and the days when I get super stressed (drama with in-laws) the next day she would be super quiet.

Every baby is different the doctor told me maybe this is her new routine which is not having a routine and kicking a bit weaker.

Good luck! Keep us updated

I'm 33 weeks now

If you are in the UK, the advice is generally to call your maternity unit when there's a change.
It can be that as the baby grows and has less space, you'll feel fewer or weaker movements.

I'm in Germany for this pregnancy and asked my OB/GYN about this yesterday. They seem way more relaxed about it. She just said to ring up if I feel fewer than 10 movements in 24 hours. DD is generally quite active but has one or two quiet days every so often. I had my CTG yesterday (happens every 2 weeks at my prenatal appointments) and it certainly recorded way more movements than I could feel.

Definitely go in. My situation was different as my baby was full term, but I had just what you described, his movements went from big belly wobblers to so subtle I had to concentrate to feel them.
The first time I went in, I had a reassuring trace and was sent home. The second time, the atmosphere changed completely when the trace was on, and I was advised my baby needed to be born straight away. It was all quite dramatic, but he was fine as soon as he was born.

Mine has me up the walls most weeks I'm 36 weeks now and every so often she is very quiet but some of that is down to the position of the placenta or the position she is in. I noticed a difference around 30 weeks and I nearly went insane but it was down to the placenta position , very nerve wrecking though. I went in once that time to be checked all was fine thank god . I'm very much looking forward to having her in my arms as the day to day anxiety if I dont feel her as much is driving me crazy. Obviously get checked if you are worried rather safe than sorry x

Elmlee · 24/05/2024 17:16

I can relate to the day to day anxiety about movements.
Generally though movements do not reduced or become less strong with babies size and lack of space.

They can though depend on babies placement in pelvis. Mine goes through moments of getting herself very low and with my tummy she is very hard to feel.

I've found though over time the movements have become much more obvious, stronger and more uncomfortable!

Definitely call again and ask for advice. I'm feeling a touch anxious about my little one today. But eating and drinking definitely get her going xx

Update. I went in just In case. Baby seems ok and met the dawmans thing easily. They aren't concerned. Said if they're consistent now one day to the next then that's fine as can't compare to two weeks ago. She's likely just moved into a lower position it's harder to feel her but if I am anxious I can keep coming in every single day if it helps. They were so nice. Said if still anxious in a week call and they will organise another scan (I had one last Thurs so took recent).
