Where to turn after recurrent miscarriages

Hi everyone, just had my third miscarriage in a row in under a year and a half and feeling a bit desperate. Have been referred to the recurrent miscarriage department at the hospital (Glasgow) but been told there's a 6-8 month wait. I'd really like to get at least the blood tests done quickly to rule out anything obvious and happy to pay but not sure where to turn. All Google results seem to bring up infertility clinics so not sure that's right. If anyone has any suggestions anywhere in Scotland (can also travel to England) would be much appreciated x

If you’re wanting to go private then a fertility clinic is a good place to start. Lots of people have fertility treatment due to recurrent miscarriages rather than because they’re not conceiving at all.

Sorry for your losses. Check out the CRP clinic, it's in Epsom but they have clients that travel from all over, even abroad. They identified I had an immune issue and I went on to have a healthy baby boy after 3 losses. Sadly I've just had another loss at 16 weeks but waiting on results to see if any cause. All the best x

I found the CRP clinic way better than our IVF clinic (who didn't discover our issue). CRP specialise in miscarriage

Yes I had the same thought about 'infertile' is the right label as I was getting pregnant easily but kept have miscarriages. We went private for tests whilst we were waiting for the NHS. You can also do at home blood tests to get basics checked E. G. Progesterone levels. Hope you get some answers

Another vote for Dr Shehata at the CRP clinic in Epsom. I know three people personally who have babies thanks to him following numerous losses.

Thank you - I didn't know about the at home tests, will look into that. Sorry it's been a struggle for you too x

Fight for your GP to do a FBC! I literally had an argument with my gp to give me a blood test and check everything and when they come back she was snotty snd said my vit D was low.

But failed to tell me folate, iron and vitD was low. And i know that because i took my results to someone in the hospital that i work at and asked them to go through it with me!

So sorry about your losses. I also recommend getting your GP to do blood tests (full blood count, thrombophilia screen to assess clotting, thyroid and lupus). Mine was happy to while I was waiting for referral to RM clinic (which took over a year to materialise). In the meantime I went to Dr Shehata at the CRP clinic and am now 25 weeks after 5 losses, so I really recommend if you're able to travel there!

ToastonEggs · 23/05/2024 13:47

I would recommend acupuncture on top as well if you’re open to it. After the investigations I was told we were just unlucky. Had acupuncture as it was recommended to me by a friend who had IVF, my fourth and fifth pregnancy were successful

thehurtingheart · 23/05/2024 19:47

I also would recommend CRP in Epsom, we travelled from Edinburgh after the NHS investigations got us nowhere. Ended up waiting ages for the NHS app and results etc and then had a further loss. Currently 37 weeks with our CRP baby x

MySocksAreDotty · 23/05/2024 19:54

Definitely yes get your GP to do bloods including thyroid, or go private for a full thyroid profile including antibodies since the NHS one is limited.

Hi my niece had similar problem. Someone recommended her to see a homeopethic docter (private), he is a retired gentleman, work from home in Edinburgh (North berwick), my niece and her husband seen him, he started their treatment after a check up.My niece had to take medicines for few weeks. He advised her not to try to get pregnant till treatment is going on otherwise there was a another risk of miscarriage. She only tried once he said she was ok to go ahead and try. Then she got pregnant straight away and now she got a son who is about 6 months old.cute healthy baby. I can send you his phone number if you are interested to try that kind of treatment. He is not highly costly to get treatment, as he says he only runs the clinic to help out people as long his bills are paid, he's happy. He don't advertise himself anywhere when I asked him, how do you get new patients? He said people who get better and benefit from his treatment they recommend him to another people. He dont take lots of patents in a day either. Maximum he would see about 4 patients in a day, but he do take a lot of time with people, not like a rush and go thing. He's got lots of experience in medical line being in royal navy, some post in medical line. The reason I am writing all this because I kind of know how you might feel. I got 2 teenagers kids now. But I had to struggle quite a lot to get pregnant, treatments IVF etc.

I hope things work out for you. Either you see this gentleman or not.

After 5 unexplained miscarriages and after the NHS miscarriage clinic exhausted all the available testing, I now have two amazing and healthy children, 7y and 5y, thanks to the treatment at the CRP clinic. I can't recommend the Epsom clinic and dr Shehata highly enough.

ginandoreos · 23/05/2024 20:29

I'm so sorry for your losses. I have a little girl after treatment at the CRP clinic with Dr Shehata. Just for clarity, the initial tests and treatment cost about 10k overall. This is obviously a significant amount of money and could vary depending on how short/long a time you might continue treatment for. A friend saw Dr Shehata on the NHS st Epsom. I think another doctor overseas the RM clinic there now but they still follow his protocols. I wonder if his influence extends elsewhere in the NHS? He is still head of Dept at Epsom Hospital I believe.

Alongside the CRP clinic, I read about a Tommys trial involving Doxycycline (a chlamydia drug). I ordered it from Superdrug and the next month I was pregnant and the pregnancy was successful. This is also an interesting avenue to explore.

It's such a difficult journey, but there is hope. X

i had 3 mc (2 were mmc measuring 7/8 weeks). I had a RM appointment but it was canceled due to Covid. I got pregnant again and took 150mg aspirin every evening from testing positive. I now have a DD. I’m pretty convinced that it was a blood clotting issue. I read that you can have blood clotting issues when pregnant that don’t show up on screening when not pregnant. It may not be your issue but thought I’d mention it in case it’s helpful. Lots of people are recommended to take aspirin as a precaution.
