Radiation from laptop or phone

Hi everyone
I feel a mix of nervous anxiety and perhaps I'm over reacting
I was at worn today and had my laptop balanced on my bump. While
I don't do this all day long, sometimes if I am
Working late on the sofa or from bed, I have done this.
Without thinking
Our tech guy then said don't
Do that the laptop emits radiation to your baby
I am 7 months pregnant
What should
I do? Is there anything I can do?

I think your tech guy should learn not to use individual pieces of information outside their context. While devices emit some radiation, it’s at a very low level and won’t cause any harm to your baby.

The Health and Safety Executive states that, “You can safely work with display screen equipment (DSE) if you're pregnant. Scientific studies have not shown any link between miscarriages or birth defects and working with DSE.”

Pregnancy or epilepsy: display screen equipment safety - HSE

Scientific studies have not shown any link between miscarriages or birth defects and working with DSE. Most people with epilepsy are not affected by DSE.

Thank you
I just wondered if this includes if the warm laptop is on your bump? I feel silly for having done this and not thought

Surely this is just a little electromagnetic radiation not ionising radiation such as UV, X rays etc, so will be completely harmless.

Do you similarly worry about getting brain cancer from using a mobile?

There are many types of radiation.

The heat that comes out of your radiators for a start. All heat for that matter including the sun.

I think the higher risk is hurting your neck/back from not sitting at a table or desk, and it’s so bad for your sleep to work in bed!

Unless he was joking, I hope he knows more about tech than he does about radiation and babies.

@chilternchica, proximity isn’t a factor as the radiation is so weak although it does dissipate over distance. In any case, at 7 months your baby’s important functions are fully formed.

So no need to worry at all. As others have posted, poor posture is more a risk for you.
