Reduced baby movement

Hello everyone! I’m really hoping to get some advice here. I’m 21 weeks pregnant and have Covid! I have been extremely unwell for the past few days: feverish, blocked nose, and a headache that won’t go away for a second!

I have been feeling my baby move since 19 weeks, and up until a day ago, my baby was moving consistently. However, since last night, my baby has had reduced movement. I’ve only felt him move three times.

My baby’s movements were very strong; we could see it on my stomach, and my partner could also feel it, so it’s not normal for my baby’s movement to be this reduced.

I don’t want to go to the A&E as my GP suggested because I don’t want to spread Covid to other people. I called triage, but the lady on the phone completely ignored my worries. She said the baby is too small and some people don’t feel anything at 21 weeks of pregnancy. However, during my midwife appointment, I was told that once I start feeling the baby move, it will be consistent. The lady from triage told me it’s fine and nothing to be worried about.

I am extremely worried about the well-being of my baby, so what should I do? Has anyone experienced this before? This is my first pregnancy, so I don’t know if I’m being too paranoid. Please, can I get some advice as I am very, very scared?

Can you call the midwife's at the hospital and get advice?

Phone back! Say you're really not happy and want them to listen in

You need to ring maternity triage at your hospital. If you have covid you need to be assessed by them for blood clot risk at the very least. Let them know your concerns regarding movement and they may be willing to check with doppler but to be blunt at 21 weeks there is not much they can do. And I say that as someone that basically lived at the hospital due to bleeds at that point and they were very clear with me they were keeping me in case they needed to save me if blood loss became too much and nothing could be done for baby.

But to reassure you I felt movements from at least 15 weeks and I had periods until late 20 weeks where I couldn't feel much if anything and it was just baby moving position and where they were kicking.

Baby is now a 5 month old!

I started feeling baby move about 17 weeks and at my 20 week scan I asked when do I need to start keeping an eye on my movements and they said there will be no pattern yet but if you don’t feel baby move for a few day then to get checked xx

Gosh, I hate when they day "some people don't feel baby movement until 20 something weeks."
Well , I started to feel movement at 17 weeks with both of my pregnancies, and by 21 weeks, I felt the babies all the time.
Keep calling them and ask them what option they have now to check you if you have Covid.

Speak to maternity triage straight away.
If you have any doubts about your babies movements please get advice. They can say about movements and timings. Sometimes they don't have a proper pattern early. But if you feel a difference especially with covid get in touch .
I can relate to how you're feeling. I'm 35 weeks and have Covid. I've felt terrible.
Hopefully on the other end now but since being signed off work I'm feeling so tired all of a sudden!
Here if you need to chat xx

I'd also mention Covid.
I've been really well cared for.
Because I have other risk factors.. BMI, high BP, gestation, G Diabetes... I've been given blood thinners for test if my pregnancy because of Covid. Xx
