This may sound silly, so be nice…
Just looking for experience / opinions on what others have or would do, let’s say in the next 48 hours our little lady arrives and I have a sick child at home.
Keep them separate?
What if I come down with it?

Any advise - Thank you :)

Your body is already making antibodies against your son's cough. If you breasfeed you will pass them over to the baby. I had a terrible chest infection when my baby was 5 weeks old. I only started taking antibiotics once my temperature hit 39 Celsius (I was worried about passing antibiotics through my breast milk). My 2 year old had tonsillitis, my husband had a nasty cold. We all had to share one bedroom. The baby had one episode of diarrhoea that was all. I was exclusively breastfeeding at the time

I brought a prem tiny dc home to 10 eager siblings.. He was more than fine...

Op I had this fear! Do you know what though, I bottle feed so the baby hasn’t my antibodies as they would if I was breast feeding, and I have two sick toddlers but the baby got a snotty nose and that was it! I couldn’t believe it. It was still a pain but I thought it would be a hospital job if they caught the sickness, and actually my four year old got sent to an and e With the same illness By the gp. All are fine now! So it just shows you it can be fine too! You hear so many horror stories! Hopefully you won’t get the cough though it’s no fun when you are heavily pregnant!!!

I wouldn't worry about keeping them separate as long as you had your whooping cough booster jab this pregnancy.

Carry on completely as normal. Particularly as your 5 year old is probably going to find the next few days and weeks quite challenging anyway. He needs his mum.

DD1 started with a cough 1 day before DD2 was born I tired my best for her to avoid it, I was breast feeding. DD2 caught it at 10 days old, she did have a nasty cough for 24 hours but was then absolutely fine x

I remember this worry. Both my husband and DD had colds right after my DS was born, I remember it vividly because I was effectively caring for 3 people whilst I was waddling around with a burning vagina 😂

I don't know how you would keep them separate so I wouldn't stress about that. All you can do is keep a close eye. Any worries about little one then straight to doctor.

Hope baby doesn't keep you waiting too long!

Thanks all!
Really glad i‘m not alone in this way of thinking - You just never know and RSV is such a worry but I’m sure I’ll have plenty more of those invasive/sometimes irrational thoughts spiral in my mind.

Ooooh @Sellingbedtime This is what I am also envisaging! What a freakin’ challenge whilst you are recovering - Super hero!

41 weeks tomorrow, so we’ve not much runway that’s for sure! :)

@supercalafragilisticexpealidocious You are right, he does need his mum and at this time of change, it’s front and centre.

@SouthwestSis I have indeed had the HC vaccine, so at least I can rest somewhat on that front.

We shall see how it goes but thank you all for your reassurances :)
