Hi everyone. I'm booked in for a colonscopy but I've just found out that I'm pregnant, typically the hospital aren't answering the phone when I have a question, does anyone know if this will go ahead?

Very likely that it won't. It's not recommended during pregnancy, and depending on why it's indicated, they might offer a different procedure (eg scan)

Keep trying on the phone.

Or if you really can't get through, see if someone at your GP practice can sort it out for you.

Previously worked in that department and have done pregnant women second trimester onwards BUT it depends on the indications of why you need it done I.e flare ups , suspected cancer

consultant will weigh up risk v benefits

you’ll need to get through to the departments booking office , tell them that you’re pregnant and ask for a consultant clinic appt to discuss it and then consultant will take it from there

No it won't. I am due to go back in June after two biopsies last year and have been told it will now be delayed until after I give birth.

Thank you

@excitedmama2be
I don't know what they suspect but I think it's diverticular disease myself.

I'm in Ireland so maybe the rules are a bit different here but I thought this place was the best place to ask for a fast answer, for some reason it's very difficult to get the day appointments department after 10:30am!

I work in an endoscopy department in Scotland,
I am pregnant and I am not allowed into the colonoscopy rooms because they are guided by magnets that are not proven safe.
I would make sure you can get hold of them to double check.

Hey, I'm 17 weeks pregnant and I've just been put on the 2ww pathway for a colonoscopy having bled from my behind since week 9 and no sign of haemorrhoids. Like someone else said think it depends on why you need it and how urgent it is deemed to be.

When we did pregnant people in our department , we turned the scope guide off for that particular patient so they could get the test done

I know this thread hasn't been posted on for a while, but just wondered if anyone has had a colonoscopy during pregnancy?
Im currently 26 wreks pregnant, and like you @Trifficult I'm on a 2 week pathway and the consultant's left it up to me whether I go ahead with colonoscopy or not, finally got them to go over the risks but they still haven't given me any stats etc so I can't decide what to do for the best.

On the one hand, I don't want to put my baby at any risk. But on the other hand, I don't want to potentially leave my baby motherless because by the time they discovered something it's too late to treat. In the past 8 years I've worked with 2 under 25s who have tragically died from stage 4 bowel cancer, and we know it's on the rise.

@Waitinggame42023 they gave me a choice and I went for a Flexi sigmoidoscopy. I'm waiting for the biopsy results of a polyp and they found some signs of inflammation. Will have to have a colonoscopy after baby is born. Best of luck x
