Sickness subsiding but drinking is still making me feel so sick...

Hey everyone,

I had been suffering with nausea and vomiting on most days until about 10 weeks. I am now 11 weeks and slowly getting better. I am no longer throwing up and my food aversions have gone BUT since 6 weeks I have had such a hard time with any drink. Drinking is still making me feel so sick and I am certain if I don't continue to sip throughout the day there is a chance, especially in the morning that I will vomit it up. With my first scan coming up at 9.20 in the morning of all times (ARGH) I am worried about how on earth I am going to get hydrated enough. Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to get enough water in me if water is making me sick. Thank you so much.

Don't put pressure on yourself as it will only stress you out. Get up early enough that you can sip away throughout the morning prior to going for your scan. You do not need to be downing litres of water before your scan - try drink plenty the day before and get 300-500mls down you the morning of. If your struggling with water you could try decaf tea/coffee, milk, squash, flavoured water ect. Bare in mind you need to be drinking plenty of fluids throughout your pregnancy for hydration and also baby is surrounded by amniotic fluid! I know it's hard but try increase fluid intake going forward x

in the early stages till 20 weeks when my sickness vanished over night, I could only sip very very old drinks usually ribeana !
hope all went ok and you managed to drink

Have you tried popsicles?

This is really common. I've had HG in three pregnancies and I always find it easier to eat than drink.

Some things that worked better for me you might like to try:

  • Lemonade
  • Orange juice
  • Flavoured sparkling water
All of the above with ice and drank through a straw in small sips.

Also, Capri Suns, but only the full sugar ones.

Roundtrees ice lollies worth a try too.

And weirdly this time round I could get a potato and leek cup a soup down me once a day even when I could barely tolerate any other drinks, so that might be worth a try?!

Lemonade was a lifesaver for me
Ice lollies
You could also try peppermint tea if you fancy a hot drink as it's quite neutral and refreshing and the smell really helped with my nausea
