Fabric Conditioner on newborn clothes

Hiya,

Is it okay to use Fabric Conditioner on new born clothes?

I know that you need to use Non Bio for washing liquid / powder but not sure about the fabric conditioner.

Thanks!

Oh Hell, I didn't think about that. I used softener on my initial stock of white babygroes. No newborn to put them on for a few weeks yet so can be washed again. Should be OK though shouldn't it? HELP, I've just found another thing to be paranoid about!

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/04/2008 17:49

I wouldn't, but then I don't use it on anyone's normally.

Bluebella · 03/04/2008 17:54

Vicsta, I have used it on one load as well, I just had a look at the 'fairy website' and they do refer to it being soft for babies, so I guess it's okay but will check with m/w to be sure.

i wouldn't because it can actually irritate skin but then ds2 has eczema so i'm overcareful

I have been using softener on my twins (now 12 weeks) and have no probs. Both have cradle cap but nothing dubious on their bodies. DS1 has sensitive skin and gets irritated by Johnson's bath products etc but is fine with softener (usually use Ecover).

I use Ecover softener, too, and it's been fine. My daughter is a bit prone to eczema but Ecover doesn't bother her.

Obviously wouldn't recommend wasting energy doing this all the time, but if you have tumble drier (or can borrow a friend's) and use some drier balls, the clothes feel lovely and soft and there's no need at all for conditioner. I did this for my son's nightshirts for the first couple of weeks-after that he got my usual grey and scratchy laundry, but i did want to give him a soft start!

I wouldn't - the fewer chemicals the better as far as I am concerned. But then I am in the camp that this is unnecessary anyway.

MinkyBorage · 03/04/2008 22:23

Agree with slinkiemalinki, I deffo wouldn't use anything more than you need, non bio, most simple products possible, imo best using ecological detergents as much as poss

eidsvold · 03/04/2008 22:33

i just used a sensitive one so that the clothes could go in the wash with everything else.

blondie14 · 03/04/2008 22:36

i too used fairy non-bio powder and comfort pure or the fairy fabric conditioner and had no problems. i would def recomend the dryer balls though, have just tried them and they realy do work although still use a little conditioner in my wash as love the smell. they are currently about 8 quid in boots, asda etc from jml i think.
