Physio/GP for muscular pain?

I'am 34 weeks and have often debilitating pain in my upper right abdomen. Been to triage and pre eclampsia has been ruled out, they didn't really have a diagnosis just said it's probably muscular..and to take paracetamol which doesn't really do anything!
Just wondering if anything I can do or anyone I can see? I'm not sleeping and struggling to get through the days as it's just so painful. I'm not a wimp by any means but it really can take my breath away and makes me feel sick it's so painful.

Doesn't sound quite right for muscular pain, I'd see the gp for that.

You should see your GP. It might not be pregnancy related at all.

I've seen a consultant at hospital this morning she said it's most likely muscular or gastro but pretty sure it's ligament/muscles. It's a sharp burning/stabbing sensation comes and goes and is worse when sitting down. I think it's probably muscular I just want to get rid/relieve it somehow!

Have you had tests for your bile acids? I had a pain there in both pregnancies and it was my liver due to cholestasis. Have you had any itching or dark urine?

INeedNewShoes · 10/05/2024 16:46

Maybe costochondritis but that tends not to be as severe as you're describing. Has anyone actually run any tests? Blood test, scan etc.?

JRTfan · 10/05/2024 16:49

@shorttwoshot no they didnt mention that..I haven't had any itching or dark urine. They tested my wee aswell.
As I said I think it's ligament/muscles as it is worse when sat in certain positions and with certain movements..I just don't know how I can relieve it was hoping maybe physio but no isea where to start ..or if I just have to put up with it.

That must be so frustrating! Bet you can't wait for baby to make an appearance x

JRTfan · 10/05/2024 16:52

@shorttwoshot yep I've been very lucky with no symptoms really but this is not fun! Altho obviously thankful it's nothing serious hopefully baby will change position or something and it will ease.

I swear by an osteopath, ideally one who knows about what happens to a woman's body during pregnancy. They understand how all the bones and muscles work together, and mine completely got rid of my (albeit mild) SPD. They really are amazing if you find a good one.

The pelvic partnership may give you a good starting point to find someone near you who knows about pregnancy specifically.

@MrsTeepee thank you! I will check that out

I would start with GP during pregnancy, Even if its a physio that you need, if you get an NHS referral it might fall within your exemption certificate.

Just my two cents maybe you have got sorted already but is there any chance it's a rib ? I know someone and the baby kicked so hard they broke a rib now I'm sure that's very rare but if your in that much pain that it's taking your breath away maybe worth considering it , I wonder would you wrap / tape your ribs as there wouldn't be a whole lot more you could do that I'm aware of.

Thanks just as an update I've posted a new thread.. was referred for a scan and apparently gall bladder is distended and has some sludge in it so that's most likely the cause of the pain. Happens in pregnancy apparently..and unfortunately not a lot they can do!
