Feeling the baby move kind of freaks me out

I mean, it's great and all, and very reassuring, but...IT'S WEIRD! Not so much feeling it from the inside, but putting my hand on my belly and feeling independent movement coming from inside me...WEIRD WEIRD WEIRD

Does/did anyone else feel the same way?

(It's my first baby btw...I'm 19 weeks.)

lol I felt that like at first, thought I would NEVER get used to. Sometimes it would drive me NUTS and sometimes it would make me feel SICK! But I DID get used to it after a while - and really loved it! It is a really strange feeling!

my DH got kicked in the ear once by my stomach

cyteen · 03/04/2008 11:49

haha brilliant! My DP has confirmed that he is not yet anywhere near ready to feel any movement

Ooooh, 19weeks, have you seen the film Alien?
Give another few weeks

cyteen · 03/04/2008 11:59

I'm 39 weeks atm, and still think it's dead strange when baby sticks its bum in the air if I'm laying down.

snooks · 03/04/2008 12:03

Haha! Yes wait for another few weeks as VS says! I'm 36 weeks and last night dh pulled his hand away and pulled a little boy shuddery face and went "but it's all slimy in there!". This is a grown man I'm talking about and this is our third baby

I said " well how do you think it feels for me!??"

TJuice · 03/04/2008 16:23

glad its not just me then.

its really cool but at the same time, its weird to think of the legs and elbows in there.

i do love it though.

vicsta · 03/04/2008 17:09

Strange isn't it? Reassuring, yes definitely and it often makes me laugh to feel & see it squirming about. On the other hand it has also made me feel quite sick - visible movements in the bath definitely remeniscent of the Alien films, but then, there really is something living in there. How freaky is that?

BabiesEverywhere · 03/04/2008 17:23

I remember freaking out at bit with my first pregnancy, when the midwife felt my bump and said "Oh, there is the bum" I went home feeling sick that I had a bottom inside me but overall I loved feeling my baby move.
This pregnancy I like feeling him/her move it focus my mind on the new baby. I don't think as much about this baby, too busy running around after a toddler.

Tanee58 · 03/04/2008 17:29

I used to lie in the bath and watch it / her. I used to call her the Alien .

She's 16 now - so no more aliens for me.

Dottydot · 03/04/2008 17:43

I hated it... Made me feel sick (which I was, all the way through the pregnancy) and just felt completely alien and wrong all the time. I didn't bond with the bump at all and referred to it as 'that bloody baby'. And this was a very much wanted pregnancy!

But the great thing was the rush of relief and instant love I felt for ds when he was born - even though he put me through a 28 hour labour ending in emergency section (little tinker).

I was so pleased to have him out of me, we bonded instantly.

cheerfulvicky · 03/04/2008 20:28

I'm 20 weeks and a bit and yes, it was strange at first. I'm just now getting used to it after having definite baby movements for a few weeks now. Feeling it with the hand is more bizarre for some reason, perhaps because my body has never done that before... But I find I'm getting attached to the kicks and nudges, and miss the little one saying 'hello' if they haven't shifted in a while

itsazoohere · 03/04/2008 20:38

I still find it odd occasionally (on number 4)-and sometimes annoyingly painful when the baby won't let me sit or lie a certain way. Other times I adore that I'm the only one that can feel EVERY movement-it helps me realise how much I've already bonded with my newest. But most of all I love my other dds reactions-sometimes awe, sometimes horrific disgust! My smallest dd (1yr) has been woken up on more than one occasion by the weeny one thumping her. Think it's just a sign of things to come!

Kezza7779 · 05/04/2008 00:36

im freaking abit to be honest especially when shes central and kicks down towards my fanjo - its just WEIRD!!!xx

HazieAndBaby · 05/04/2008 00:40

Hi cyteen, haven't we met before? I was totaly freaked out about it when I first felt the baby move from the outside - it's not every day that you have a person living inside you, so it's totally understandable! I was lying watching tv with my hand on my belly and felt a big kick - it was really weird!! I'm used to it now though and totally love it.

Remotew · 05/04/2008 00:43

It's been a long time. Don't freak out because when that baby is outside you will miss it. Enjoy

Remotew · 05/04/2008 00:45

In the bath was the best time ever. Just watching your tummy moving from one side to the other. It was 15 years ago for me also. Now if it happens it just wind

juuule · 05/04/2008 13:51

I loved it, found it strangely comforting. I missed it once the baby was born. And just think - a free massage for your internal organs

cyteen · 05/04/2008 15:27

Hehe, I'm getting more used to it now - was pleased to welcome it back after a whole day's inactivity yesterday. Not looking forward to being kicked in the fanjo though!

I know this is a very old thread but posts like Dottydot have settled my anxieties so much.
I love the baby but am struggling lots with sickness and the movements etc and it’s worried me I won’t connect when born.
Thank you for your honest post! Xx
