Metaclopromide longer term?

I’ve been diagnosed with HG and metaclopromide seems to be making a huge difference. I’ve had one course of 5 days, and they’ve just prescribed another course of another 5 days. But, I go on holiday for a week next week and the next course won’t take me to the end of my week off. I want to ask for another two weeks worth but I’m not sure the doc will prescribe that much.

Can someone reassure me with positive experiences of being able to take this medication for more than 5 days at a time?

Thankyou 💜

I took it for 8 months for HG! More than once... Your Dr is unreasonable to not just put it on repeat prescription.... Though they may want to monitor you more closely and that is why they are doing it in short courses. I would phone and ask them if they can prescribe a month and then review if needed?

Thankyou that’s so helpful 💜 - I just wanted to be sure! She was going to do 3 weeks worth but then I got a text via the GP saying she’s changed her mind because it says to not use for longer than 5 days at a time! Completely get the need for monitoring but I can’t cope without it at the moment.

I’ll call again tomorrow - I’ve been without it for two days and the sickness has kicked in again, I’ve vomited 5 times today already and barely able to keep food / water down.

I think the NICE guidelines were reviewed in 2021 and this is the latest advice. There are other anti-emetics that can be given for longer periods of time. I assume it is because outside of pregnancy, anyone who was sick for more than 5 days would need review! It may be that local guidelines say anything longer or stronger needs to be reviewed by hospital.

But a lot of people I know were prescribed metaclopromide and stronger options throughout pregnancy where it was needed. For me, the alternative was constantly being readmitted to hospital for IV fluids and IV anti-emetics!
