Am I overreacting?

Hi all,
I'm 41 and 30 weeks pregnant with my 3rd. This is a very happy surprise baby (we call it our little miracle due to lots of reasons) and the age gap between this pregnancy and my last is 10 years!
Because of my age and other health concerns (high bp, baby having 2 cord vessel, recurrent UTI's) I've been more anxious than I have probably needed to be.

I have been to labour and delivery
a few time, mostly with issues around my UTI's. The UTI's have made me feel dreadful and last time resulted in 5 days of IV antibiotics. I went last week because I hadn't felt the baby move. In all, since turning 24 weeks, I've been 3 times. I don't see this as excessive, but last time with the reduced movements, the midwife and booking clerk seemed rude and made a comment between them about me being back again and then I was given the eye roll.

The problem I have is last night I slipped going down the stairs. I fell on my bum so didn't squish my bump, but as I slipped I think I wee'd myself a bit. Today, my bum and tailbone are pretty sore. Baby seems to be moving but I am having pain in my stomach - not braxton hicks type pain, maybe I pulled a muscle. Anyway, my DH asked if it could possibly have been an amniotic fluid leak when I slipped and now I'm concerned that maybe it was. No more fluid has leaked since I slipped.

I want to call labour and delivery just to check but I'm worried they'll think I'm overreacting. I would rather call and check to make sure that everything is a-ok than miss anything. Is that reasonable or am I wasting their time?

Always go amd get checked. Ignore the eye rolls. Please go asap

Just call and go. Ignore the eye roll. They will deal with it pretty quickly if it is nothing. Hope all is well

Twinkletwinklelil · 06/05/2024 02:10

They shouldn’t be rude. Log a complaint!

but more importantly, get checked out. I was always told that they would rather check me if I was concerned than not - better to be safe.
Hope it’s nothing and you’re ok xx

Definitely call…

call as many times as you need don’t risk anything fuck what they think it about you and your baby xx

ignore the eye roll and go and get checked if you are concerned. Let them roll as many eyes as they like. Rise above it x

I know how you feel OP. I also went a lot of times because of panic something is wrong, and I always felt hesitant to call because they might think oh here we go again, but think of it in a scale of bigger things, you're better making sure you and your baby are healthy over any eye rolls. Also at the end of the day, it's their job and duty to ensure appropriate checks are done to prevent anything bad happening, and 9/10 they are very lovely people. I remember when I was in my late second trimester, and someone knocked me down while trying to get on the bus and I fell to the floor with the side of my bump, but my bum hurt more tbh. I called up and they said to just monitor if I had any further pains but I was fine.

I’m currently 26 weeks and have been to labour triage 3 times already (all for different reasons). I’m very anxious and mentioned to the midwife I felt bad for wasting time - she told me I was to go there every single day if I had concerns and that no one should be making me feel bad (which to be fair they haven’t).

Online it says to go after a fall - go up and don’t feel guilty.

LizzeyBenett · 06/05/2024 07:09

I think everyone has a certain amount of anxiety in pregnancy it's only natural im 33 weeks and have been in twice and yes I did feel like they were judging me and I got a comment from a nurse to maybe leave it longer to try feel baby before going in (her pattern had changed and hadn't felt her since the day before) but honestly at the end of the day god forbid there was something wrong and what stopped us from getting checked was what those people thought .. well we would be the ones that would have to live with those consequences so always get checked if your worried who cares what they think your baby is way more important.

It's more than likely going to be a different team on too so you won't even see them - don't let the eye rolls stop you if you think you need to be seen

Lillers · 06/05/2024 07:54

My midwife told me they see some people almost daily and are happy to do so if it means that a) it reduces their concerns and b) they can catch something early enough to do something about it.

Go if you’re worried - you’re being a good Mum. If one of your children had a habit of falling out of trees and needing to go to A&E once a week you’d probably get eye rolls there, too, but that wouldn’t stop you if they were lying there with a broken arm.
