Pregnancy bleeding gums (worried!)

I’m getting quite worried now. I’ve been for a check up (back in Feb) already in my pregnancy and dentist just said it’s normal.

BUT woke up this morning, came downstairs and could taste blood in my mouth. I had to hold a tissue down on my gums to stop it from bleeding. Then used Corsodyl.

Few hours later, I could taste blood again. Gums look really inflamed.

My issue is this is happening randomly. Brushing and flossing isn’t triggering it.

Can anyone advise anything? Or any dentists on here with suggestions?

TIA

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can make your gums more vulnerable to plaque, leading to inflammation and bleeding. This is also called pregnancy gingivitis or gum disease.

I'm 20 weeks and experiencing the same
I went to the dentist and this is completely normal. Obviously if mouth don't stop bleeding at one point u would need to see someone but I wouldn't worry x

This was very normal in pregnancy for me, I had really swollen bleeding gums in both pregnancies. I think it's pregnancy gingivitis & my dentist also told me it was normal. Keep on top of your dental hygiene throughout your pregnancy but things should go back to normal once baby is here.

The hormones in pregnancy make your gums more sensitive to even the slightest amount of plaque. Therefore in pregnancy you need to up your oral hygiene , not with mouthwash, but by physically brushing your gums as much as you brush your teeth and using interdental brushes or floss every day without fail.

Once your gums are inflammed they will bleed , brushing and cleaning inbetween properly will make them bleed worse at first but persevere and the bleeding will stop.

It is not normal to have gum bleeding during pregnancy but it is common and easily treatable with very careful and thorough cleaning , it may take a few days to settle down.

Yes, I had this issue. My gum even started to separate from my teeth - loads of blood, and I was terrified of losing my teeth. I went to the dentist once a month but they couldn't do anything about it other than try to give them a good clean.

Good news is that it went away after birth. Now I have the same problem as I'm pregnant with my second...

My dentist actually told me to use salt water rather than mouthwash, as it's naturally healing and antiinflammatory. I've not suffered from much and have been using Listerine gum health, so haven't really needed his preemptive advice, but either could be worth a shot!

FWIW I'd only use mouthwash when gums aren't bleeding as I'd be nervous about the chemicals getting into my bloodstream as they shouldn't be swallowed, but I'm possibly being overly careful!
