Does mucus plug have to be bloody?

So I am 39 +3, had a sweep 2 days ago. Literally doing everything I can, yesterday I thought I lost my plug. Was quite a rare looking thing to be Frank. It wasn’t as big as some I have seen online but was a bit long, stringy and yellow/light green. I got all excited assuming this was the plug only to read online that others have lost theirs weeks before Labour.

can I also add that I am beyond fed up. I know women can go right up to 42 weeks but I feel like absolute crap. I am beyond u comfortable, it’s my first every pregnancy and I’m just so excited. I also think I have got my hopes up so much and just continue to get let down. At my sweep on Friday she said my cervix was very soft, baby is very low and I am 1cm dilated. No contractions but - just the odd cramp but realising now that they’re probably just stomach acid pains.

someone make me feel better for I am honestly fed up waiting :(

55% of women who loose their mucus plug go in to labour within 48 hours. Try to relax, get some rest and build your oxytocin levels with lots of relaxation and you stand a good chance. Oxytocin is necessary as it’s the hormone that sends blood to the uterus and causes contractions. Getting excited will boost adrenaline which counteracts oxytocin.

@MabelTheCow Yes but is it my mucus plug? I’ve been told online there has to be blood in it?

I don't think there should be blood in it?

I noticed mine on only one of my labours. Similar to what you described.

Keep gently active if you can but equally don't overdo it because you'll need energy for labour soon 🤪

I apologise in advance but I just got up off the sofa and felt damp. This came out when I wiped. Please tell me this is a sign it’s happening soon!!!! I’m due in 4 days!!

@keenmumtobe mine looked like this! I had my daughter the following morning x

When I lost my plug with DS it was about the size of a golf ball, and it looked like a million raisins all clogged together. It was dark red and there was a bit of blood.

@HRP1990 hopefully I’ll be the same as you and meet my little man soon!!!! I have cramps too at the moment

There can be lines of blood in it but shouldn’t be bleeding. Think like snot but not green.

My mucus plug didn’t have blood in either, it looked just like a slimey blob that was yellowy (tmi sorry). Not much far off your picture, but a bit more.
Mine actually passed in two parts, one part early afternoon and second part late that night, but I went into Labour 7 hours after the second part

Mine was more solid but the same colour with fine streaks of pink blood. Baby born six hours later.

PickledMumion · 05/05/2024 11:05

I had my first within 24 hours of passing a small amount of mucousy looking gunk. With my others, I didn't lose anything until I was already in labour.

Late pregnancy is essentially the same thing as early labour - the two things can overlap by several days. The most important (and hardest!) thing is to try to relax - your body won't want to go into labour if it thinks there's danger.
