Definitions of sassy. adjective. improperly forward or bold. synonyms: fresh, impertinent, impudent, overbold, saucy, smart, wise forward. used of temperament or behavior; lacking restraint or modesty

Surely this is personality and not a name

I feel another title for this thread could be "name the girls who weren't nice to you in high school" 😁

Jasmine. We call her Jazzy. I think she is going to be a bit wild when she gets older 😂

Yes, what if she turns out to be quiet and reserved?

Isn't sassy very different depending on the person/ subjective? There are some names here that I would never even consider to be sassy such as Heidi and Nina.

And I dislike the idea that for a girl name to be sassy or powerful it needs to be a boy name.

To me sassy means bold, non-nonsense, outgoing, super-confident and showing attitude. And this means a famous namesake such as Cleopatra, Medea, Luna, Scarlett, Coco, Carmen, Bellatrix, Boudicca, Matilda. Think of Greek goddesses, female warriors, explorers, badasses.

It could also be any name starting with Q, X or Z. Xanthe, Queenie, Zadie. Or power of nature such as Tempest.

@IsadoraQuagmire yes this applies to many names with expectations. Knew some one called Tiny who was of big build and always dieting. She may have been a tiny baby.

Leah
Missy
Danica
Athena
Reagan

Missy? That's a little bit twee.
Also, used as a bit of a put down "what are you up to, missy?"

SuziQuinto · 05/05/2024 10:15

Just avoid all the fashionable twee names: Dottie, Dolly, Maisie, Daisy, Missy, Pixie, Betsey, Minnie etc.
Give a classic name, but it won't be "unique":
Elizabeth, Catherine, Esther, Margaret, Eleanor, Evelyn, Lois, Helen etc.

Missy is often used as a diminutive for Melissa though, so she'd have a good alternative if she wanted one!

Saskia

Melissa is good.

I meant the baby would have a choice when she's older.

Oh, right

dizzydizzydizzy · 05/05/2024 13:23

IMHO, girl names ending in an 'a sound' seem more powerful than anything ending with a diminutive such as '-ine' or -'ette'.

So Joanna or Suzannah or Paula rather than Joanne or Suzanne or Pauline.

I agree with the comment by PP about nature names so Storm, Tempest, Sky (or Skyla?), Luna, River. (Although not my personal taste).

Other suggestions:

Justina
Francesca
Christina
Elena
Annabel
Jennifer

MJCadman · 07/05/2024 13:50

Lots of these names are 70 / 80s 😬

Beetlewings · 07/05/2024 13:57

Suzie
Sadie
Marcie
Pepper
Toni
Josie
Could all be in a gang in 70s tv show which = sassy
