LLETZ and pregnancy

Hi,
In May 2023 I had lletz treatment to remove 14mm. I had consultant remove it as the area was apparently too large for the gynaecologist.?!

Now, I am pregnant and have been reading up on the risks following treatment. apparently anything over 10mm is at a greater risk of a late miscarriage or prem birth. This has obvs left me feeling incredibly anxious as 14mm seems like a large chunk to remove.

I wondered if anyone else had the same issue and managed to have healthy pregnancy. Xx

Hi there I am a midwife. In my hospital you would be seen by prematurity clinic right after the booking appointment. They can use the ultrasound to measure the length of the cervix and might advise on a cervical circlage (cervical stitch) until the end of pregnancy. Please contact your community midwife on Tuesday and ask what your hospital offers

I hope this helps - I had 2 x LLETZ ten years apart, one 14mm and one 16mm. I had my DS 2 years after my last one. I was put on extra cervical length scans because having two or more LLETZ automatically registers you for cervical length scans. I was discharged from the cervical length clinic (actually called preterm labour clinic) at 28 weeks as my cervix was fine. Cervix also performed perfectly in labour - was so proud of it!

Best wishes for your pregnancy xx

I also had 2 x LLETZ treatments, one was over 10mm (can't remember exact measurement) Ave I was SO anxious about this risk as well. as@Kosenrufugirl had suggested, I was seen for a cervical length scan although not until 16w which in my case was ok, and again at 20w and 24w. I was given progesterone but did not require the stitch surgery.

Had a straightforward delivery after going into labour naturally at 38w

Just make sure you're being monitored and all will be ok

I just wanted to thank you so much for sharing your story. I had 1.7mm removed with 1 lletz treatment, I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant, and most of the stories I've read have been very frightening. I guess that's the Internet for you - people don't tend to share the positive.

Hopefully my story will also be positive, and I'll definitely share it online for others like me who are looking for information.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. It really stands out in a sea of sad ones I've read. X

Hi SeaJay22, how is your pregnancy going? Are you being offered scans to check the length? X

Hi! It's going well, thanks - had one length check scan at 17+1 and it was 42 mm, so well within the normal range 😊. The consultant also told me that I had had 15mm removed, and not 17mm, as I had previously thought. Still a decent amount, but definitely better. Things can change though, so I have another checkup at 21 weeks. 🤞🏻 All will be fine.

How are you? How's yours going, and how far along are you? I hope you've been offered checks. It's a bit of a roulette, though, isn't it? 15mm removed is the minimum my hospital checks up on, whereas it's anything over 10mm at other hospitals.

2mumlife · 19/06/2024 16:45

Hi, I had 1 LLETZ procedure under general (and a massive haemorrhage afterwards). Consultant at my fertility clinic thought my cervix was short so flagged that even though I didn't meet traditional NHS criteria of 2 procedures I should be monitored. I had scans every 2 weeks between 14-24 weeks with my DD, no issues at all, baby born at full term.

Now pregnant again. Was having scans every 4 weeks as no problem last time, but then there was a concern cervix was shortening slightly, so I had weekly scans for 3 weeks. Consultant has reassured himself nothing to be concerned with at 24 weeks and discharged from cervical measurements now. Hoping for another full-term baby

Hi, absolutely fine, thanks. The consultant even cleared me for my trip to New Zealand! Baby is now 9 months old and I carried to 39+6. Just been in settling him back to sleep, hence the late hour.

Good luck to you. 😊
