Would you go for a private scan to see if boy or girl?

I'm 22 weeks with 4th (and last!) baby, we have two girls and a boy already so have a mix of baby clothes to use again but we have ALOT of stuff. At the 20 week NHS scan they said baby looks to be a boy, would you just go with that or maybe go for a private scan for a second opinion? Of course we are just happy that the baby is healthy and we would be happy either way but need to free up some space in the house for when baby is here. My only concern is that we will get rid of all the girls clothes thinking baby is a boy, only to find out he is she when born 😅
(P.s I know there's no such thing specifically as clothes just for boys or just for girls but no sense in keeping pink/flowery things as well as the other stuff)

Yes, sometimes I go private for the early gender scan at 16 weeks.

I had an early private gender scan. Did they seem confident it was a boy?

We did with the youngst. She was 3rd child. Her siblings enjoed it and we did it because of them. It was placed before the NHS scan - siblings were allowed. NHS agreed on girl.

No but then I've never wanted to find out the sex before birth to be fair

No, it is not as if there is a returns policy if it is not the right one

I've said in my original post we are just happy that the baby is healthy and that we have no preference either way. There is no such thing as 'the wrong one', as someone who has gone through pregnancy loss in the past I am extremely grateful to be having a healthy baby and would never be disappointed, I don't understand why you have commented that?

He just said 'you see this here? Looks to be a boy' 😂 I wasn't quite sure what I was looking at to be honest as it was just a quick look between the legs at the end of the scan and that was that

If you want certainty then go by all means. I did at 16 weeks. It's quickly organised and won't break the bank x

It was my reason for not having one

My cousin had three scans, two nhs and one private and was categorically told boy on each one. They were delighted, they had two girls already etc and bought all blue, took all tags off, washed everything, generally got ready for a boy. They had a lovely little girl. I don’t think any scan is guaranteed!

Peonies12 · 01/05/2024 13:55

It's never guaranteed. I'd not bother, just keep the clothes and start clearing out once baby arrives (assuming this is your last one!)

I would go for a private scan- if it's important to you and you can afford it. Might be nice to take your other kids along to see as well? A private gender scan would probably give you a more certain answer as they can spend longer checking. We had a private gender scan at 17weeks and it was really good.
