Off water - suggestions to hydrate

I’m completely off water, the taste makes me wretch. I’ve been managing to have lemon water but that’s then me having 4 lemons a day so dreading what’s going to happen to my teeth. However the last few days I’ve been feeling dehydrated despite this, any suggestions for what to drink help keep hydrated ??

Squash?

pelotonaddiction · 29/04/2024 17:58

Would bitter lemon or lemon squash work?

Leonarda89 · 29/04/2024 17:59

Have you tried sparkling water?

ButterNork · 29/04/2024 17:59

Milk? Soya milk? Sugar free squash if you are worried about your teeth? Peppermint tea? Camomile tea? Lemon and ginger tea?

LizardOfOz · 29/04/2024 18:00

Sparking water with juice for flavour

SittingBackAndWatchingTheClowns · 29/04/2024 18:01

Milk
Squash
Fresh fruit juice (diluted if necessary
Tonic water
Lemonade
Fruit teas
Decaffeinated tea or coffee

Taciturn · 29/04/2024 18:01

Have you tried different types of water - bottled, filtered, hot etc? It might be something in the water that is making you wretch.

RaininSummer · 29/04/2024 18:45

Coconut water is nice.

Moke · 29/04/2024 18:47

Watermelon, really good for hydration.

LizzeyBenett · 29/04/2024 19:01

I've lived off ice water with squash in it

TTPD · 29/04/2024 19:06

I tolerated ice cold water better than just from the tap. I'd literally fill a glass with ice cubes, top up with water, and sip. Sometimes I'd add a bit of squash as well.

Also lime calypo ice lollies were the best. They helped take away the horrible taste in my mouth.
I also found salt and vinegar crisps helped with that taste, and then water was more tolerable afterwards. I had a packet for breakfast most days in the first trimester 🙈

househelpneeded24 · 29/04/2024 19:39

Cucumber water. I was the same with plain water. Fresh mint added was lovely too.

LimeRaven · 29/04/2024 19:48

I have 3 HG pregnancies under my belt so feel you. What I could/can tolerates often changes over time and depending on what I vomit up most, but some things that have worked for me at various times were:

  • Capri Sun orange drinks. Has to be full sugar. For some reason this is always my most tolerated fluid! I literally never ever drink them otherwise.
  • Fruit flavoured sparkling water.
  • Orange juice.
  • Apple juice.
  • Hot water.
  • Lemonade.
  • Certain flavours of Cup a Soup.

All of the above must be chilled and with a straw, with the exception of the hot water, and Cup a Soups, and with also the exception of the Capri Sun, must have ice in too.

CurlsLDN · 29/04/2024 19:54

suck ice cubes if you can stomach them, or ice lollies

DisorganisedMummyTurningOrgnaised · 29/04/2024 19:55

I’m with you! I can finally have water at 20 weeks but not too much or it makes me want to puke! Sparkling water has been my saviour - I’m devouring it. If coke wasn’t so bad for me, it’d be that!

DancingintheSpoonlight · 29/04/2024 19:59

Fruit juice ice lollies

Try “thicker” liquids like juice, smoothies, milk

It won’t be forever (even if it feels like it!) so these are fine in the short term

BatildaB · 29/04/2024 20:02

I’m struggling with the same problem. I’m eating a lot of fruit, especially watermelon and cucumber, but also an apple and an orange every day, as those are going down easy for me and contain a lot of water. I can manage a smoothie first thing - banana, soy milk, ice cubes and a bit of ginger and protein powder. When I can tolerate it I have a sip of water but it’s so hard. I have ordered boxes of fentiman’s rose lemonade and cawston ginger beer - not great tooth wise but I can drink one of those fairly quickly sometimes so have one or two of those each day. Those two seemed the most healthy sweet fizzy options to me. It’s odd though, I don’t seem massively dehydrated, even though that is less than half what I’d usually drink and it feels like such a chore to do it.

Yourethebeerthief · 29/04/2024 20:41

My favourite way to have still water is with slices of cucumber

LimeRaven · 29/04/2024 20:45

Yess @DisorganisedMummyTurningOrgnaised I’m having to treat myself to a Diet Coke a day as that’s fine too

Same @BatildaB used to drink 2+ litres a day. Its’s weird for my whole trimester I wasn’t getting dehydrated and now it’s hit 🫣 thanks everyone for the ideas !

I really struggled with this! get some rehydration tablets and try and chug one glass (making it ice cold really helps!) at least then you know you're hydrated! also herbal tea, I usually hate green tea but I loved that and peppermint and also lemon and ginger
