Hives under eyes -Fexafenadine or steroid cream?

Hi I am 10 weeks pregnant and broken out in hives under my eyes. I usually take Fexafenadine when this happens but not sure if it’s save so decided to put some hydrocortisone cream under. I really don’t want to do that either. Shall I take a tablet or stick with cream?

Fexofenadine isn’t safe in pregnancy

LostInTheBog · 28/04/2024 21:27

I would avoid steroid cream around the eyes. It is linked to glaucoma. Have you tried antihistamines?

PLEASE don't put topical steroids on your face. Your skin is so thin there and steroids, even low potency ones, can have long-lasting effects on your entire body. I used steroids on my face and it's the biggest regret of my life. It made me so ill

I don’t usually put steroid on my face but I’m pregnant and can’t take fexafenafine and OTC anti histomines isn’t working so what am I supposed to do?

It’s getting worse even after I took Loratadine

Chlorphenamine antihistamines are good, I think I took it when I was pregnant (many moons ago though)

My GP has me on Elocon (sp?), which is a strong steroid apparently, for my eyelids, under eye and around my nose. Feel scared reading this?

started with a rash around my nose, wasn’t itchy just red and a bit sore. GP spotted flakiness in my hair which I’d put down to washing it too much but it was all connected apparently. So I’ve steroids for my scalp and face.

I used topical steroids on a red patch on my face. It wouldn't go down with anything else and this is what happened. My delicate facial skin became 'addicted' for want of a better word, and the rash got worse and worse unless I put more on. Eventually it stopped working.

It affected my whole body. I was admitted to hospital with erythroderma over 90% of my body. I was off work for over four months and at points my husband and family thought I was going to die.

Please, I only say don't out of experience and a genuine concern you might end up the same.

@YouBelongWithMe im sorry to hear that. I am very anti steroid cream on my face too, I’m actually anti steroid cream full stop.
but what’s the alternative whilst I’m pregnant? I can’t take my fexofenadine which is my go to treatment. OTC antihistamine aren’t strong enough.

Could you try another prescribed antihistamine? They all have different active ingredients and some may be safe during pregnancy.

LaundryandDirt · 28/04/2024 22:09

Omg @YouBelongWithMe I am so sorry that happened to you. I hope you are doing okay now. That’s absolutely shocking

Sorry OP for hopping on your thread.

If it is eczema, your GP camp prescribe a TCI inhibitor such as tackle us

Sorry, tacrolimus!
