Oblique breech at 29wks? Should I be doing exercises to encourage bump to turn?

Hello!

Got seen by a stand-in midwife last week who advised me that DS/D#2 is presenting oblique breech. A week on and he/she is still in the same place.

MW didn't make any suggestions for exercises/positions to try and encourage turning and I didn't think to ask (or is it too early anyway?)

Should I be doing exercises to encourage him/her to swizzle around?

I've read swimming would be good, but I'm not a competent swimmer and also have mild SPD so the one stroke I can just about manage (breaststroke) is a no-no as I end up pulling muscles everywhere!

Also have a major problem in that I can't stop sleeping on my back - prop myself up every night with pillows but wake up on my back without fail - I'm sure this can't help either.

Help!!

Claire

Hi there Claire..
I was carrying a transverse baby up until last week at 36 weeks so you have lots of time yet. I would suggest sitting forward instead of lounging on the sofa at night and cleaning floors on your hands and knees..it seemed to work for me. I think you have till 33 weeks at least so don't panic.

Hi Claire,

DD was palpated as breech from about 28 weeks and never got head down. I'm still annoyed that the midwives didn't really suggest I do anything until I got to 36 weeks when they started talking ECVs and CSs. I can see its tricky as they don't want to worry women when most babies will turn, but for those that don't it does leave you feeling a bit high and dry.

Try and get hold of a copy of "Breech Birth" by Benna Waites - it covers a lot of complementary techniques you can try. Retrospectively I wish I'd given moxibustion a go (you burn moxa sticks near an accupuncture point on your little toe - usually organised through an accupuncturist) and/or seen a chiro skiled in the Webster technique. Neither would force a baby to turn, but annecdotaly both seem to have quite a lot of success, and are more successful the sooner you start.

Good luck
