hi guys
i was getting pregnancy symptoms so decided to test and i was 4 and half weeks pregnant. after two days when my period was due i started spotting pinkish blood which then turned in to a lot heavier blood. it was bright red/dark red. it wasn’t heavy like my period but it wasn’t light either. i had a little bit of cramping. i rang early pregnancy unit and they said they won’t see me because i was only 4 and half weeks so i called my GP and they said they wouldn’t see me because early pregnancy unit should do so. i rang them back and they gave me an appointment for a scan for when i turn 6 weeks! i couldn’t wait that long so i decided to go to a and e because no one would do anything. i waited for ages and they did a pregnancy test which they said was negative and said i had miscarried. they didn’t explain anything and they didn’t do a blood test to check HCG levels or anything.
I went home and the next day i did a pregnancy test and it was positive. I have attached the image.
Has this happened to anyone?
Could I still be pregnant? I’m still bleeding but a lot less. Thank you

@justhadenoughx Firstly sorry to hear. Was the test before this one a darker line? Maybe you’re having a chemical pregnancy. I had one in feb. Tests never progressed then got much lighter and bled. This type of pregnancy usually happens before 5 weeks (as far as I’m aware)

It could be a chemical unfortunately. You'll figure this out if you do regular pregnancy tests. If the test line gets darker the pregnancy is growing, if it gets lighter then it's a chemical. Unfortunately most of the time EPU/GP won't do anything until 6 weeks as there isn't anything that can see or do before then. Fingers crossed for you 🫶🏼

do you have any idea how it could be negative and then positive the next day? shouldn’t it have stayed negative

I'm sorry you're going through this. hCG is a growth hormone and there is always a very tiny amount of it in your system, but it markedly increases when you're pregnant. That line, while there and thus 'positive', is too light to indicate a viable, active pregnancy. I imagine this is why the test the hospital did was considered negative. Again, I'm so sorry you're going through this. My last loss was missed at a 7 week scan, the sac was measuring about two weeks behind and it took 3 months to resolve. I know how hard this is. Please take care of yourself.

Sounds like an early miscarriage, unfortunately there's nothing they can do in hospital. Just test again in a few days and should be negative. EPU won't usually see you that early on as unlikely anything would show on a scan. Sorry it's happened.

Probably as they used a different type of test or your urine was less or more diluted.

@Osonisa please tick the sensitive content warning box when you upload pics like this.

if baby is fine on scans then try not to panic it may be a subchorionic hematoma but I would push with midwife/hospital to explore reasons for it x
